The Eagles have signed undrafted rookie RB Chris Polk out of Washington. Polk is 5’10″, 224 pounds and he runs a 4.55 40. Polk is a converted WR who runs with power. He is a workhorse that wears on defenses. He is also an outstanding receiver out of the backfield. On the downside, he doesn’t have much of an interest in blocking and he’s not exceptionally fast. Polk played in 13 games (all starts) for Washington last year and he carried the ball 293 times for 1,488 yards (5.1 ypc) with 12 TD runs. He also caught 31 passes for 332 yards (10.7 avg) with 4 TD grabs. Polk played in 40 games (all starts) in his four years with the Huskies in which he carried the ball 799 times for 4,049 yards (5.1 ypc) with 26 TD runs. He also has caught 79 passes for 683 yards (8.6 avg) with 4 TD grabs at Washington. I was shocked to see Polk go undrafted as the Eagles got a major steal with this signing.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected QB Nick Foles out of Arizona with the 88th overall pick (3rd round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Foles is a pure pocket passer as he stands 6’5″, 244 pounds. Foles has a big time right arm as he can drill the ball down the field. He is going to use some coaching up as Arizona ran a pretty simple offense. Lucky for Foles to have landed in Philly, because head coach Andy Reid will be there to coach him up and get him ready to play in the NFL. Foles played in 12 games (11 starts) for Arizona last year and he completed 387 of 560 passes (69.1%) for 4,334 yards with 28 TD passes and 14 INTs. He played in 36 games (32 starts) at Michigan State and Arizona in which he completed 938 of 1,404 passes (66.8%) for 10,067 yards with 67 TD passes and 33 INTs. I like this pick for the Eagles as Foles appears to have a much higher upside than Mike Kafka does.

The Eagles selected ILB/OLB Mychal Kendricks out of California with the 46th overall pick (2nd round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Kendricks is 5’11″, 237 pounds and he runs a 4.7 40, so he is a good athlete. Kendricks is not a good cover LB against the pass, but he is a beast against the run. Kendricks’ motor always runs hot as he gives it everything he has on every play. With DeMeco Ryans on board in Philly, Kendricks is likely to start his career at OLB, where he could excel. Kendricks played in 13 games (11 starts) for California last year and he had 107 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 2 passes broken up and 2 interceptions. He played in 52 games (32 starts) in his four years with the Bears and he had 259 tackles, 36.5 tackles for a loss, 11.5 sacks, 5 passes broken up and 4 interceptions. This was a rock solid pick for the Eagles.
