In response to demand, PHSA Research & Academic Services and the Data Management team at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHRI) are collaborating to expand BCCHRI’s REDCap service for stand-alone surveys and Research Ethics Board (REB) approved research projects to users from across PHSA. This platform supports secure and privacy-sound data collection and management.
BCCHRI’s Data Management team has supported hundreds of research projects over the past decade and has strong expertise in managing research data and supporting the REDCap platform.
To accurately assess organization-wide need, this service will be offered beginning May 24, 2018, on a one-year pilot basis while monitoring uptake. A sustainability plan will be developed over the course of the year based on usage. Projects onboarded during the pilot phase will be supported until they are completed, regardless of the project length.
While it does not have capacity to support additional users, BC Cancer also recently implemented REDCap to support its research community.
To learn more about REDCap and the process by which to access it, please see the information and links below.
REDCap is a web-based, metadata-driven software solution and workflow methodology for designing and capturing data for research studies. REDCap allows users to build and manage online surveys and research databases quickly and securely.
Because of its robust security and privacy provisions, REDCap is increasingly recommended by academic and other institutions for secure and privacy-sound data collection and management and is used at more than two thousand institutions in 119 countries around the world.
PHSA-wide access to BCCHRI's REDCap service will be limited initially to stand-alone surveys and REB-approved research projects only, with the goal of expanding services to support quality improvement/assurance projects as greater experience is gained in this area. Users must be affiliated with PHSA to be eligible for this service.
