The Philadelphia Eagles trade up to take DT Fletcher Cox

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Draft Report by admin on Friday 27 April 2012 at 10:19 pm

The Eagles dealt the #15 overall pick (1st round), #114 pick (4th round) and the #172 pick (6th round) to the Seahawks for the right to move up to #12 to take DT Fletcher Cox out of Mississippi State.  Cox is 6’4″, 295 pounds and he runs a 4.85 40, which is pretty impressive for a player his size.  Cox played in 12 games (all starts) at Mississippi State last year and he had 56 tackles, 14.5 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.  Cox played in 36 games (27 starts) in his three years at Mississippi State in which he finished up with 114 tackles, 24.5 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.  This was a good move for the Eagles as they needed some help in the middle of the D to help stop the run.

The Philadelphia Eagles deal CB Asante Samuel to the Falcons

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Wednesday 25 April 2012 at 6:59 pm

The Eagles have dealt 31-year old CB Asante Samuel to the Atlanta Falcons for a late round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.  It is believed that the pick with be the Falcons’ sixth round pick, which is #192 overall.  Samuel played in 14 games for the Eagles last year and he had 34 tackles, 10 passes defensed, 3 interceptions (one returned for a TD), 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.  Samuel played in 56 games in his four years with the Eagles and he had 125 tackles, 23 interceptions (2 returned for TDs), 62 passes defensed, 2 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and 1 tackle for a loss.  The Eagles should be o.k. without Samuel as they will move Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie into his starting spot, opposite of Nnamdi Asomugha.

The Philadelphia Eagles are going to focus on needs in the 2012 NFL Draft

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Draft Report by admin on Wednesday 18 April 2012 at 9:22 pm

The Eagles’ run defense was terrible last year, so I look for them to focus on improving in the middle of the D in the 2012 NFL Draft.  Here is who I see the Eagles winding up with in my mock 2012 NFL Draft which can be found on bloglockers.com:

1. (15) Michael Brockers, DT, LSU

2. (46) Harrison Smith, SS, Notre Dame

2. (51) Bruce Irvin, OLB, West Virginia

3. (88) Marvin Jones, WR, California

4. (114) Omar Bolden, CB, Arizona State

5. (153) Najee Good, ILB, West Virginia

6. (172) Caleb McSurdy, ILB, Montana

6. (194) Adonis Thomas, RB, Toledo

6. (200) Jack Crawford, DE, Penn State

The Philadelphia Eagles have been working hard this off-season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Thursday 12 April 2012 at 10:56 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles have re-signed 7 free agents, six five free agents and they have dealt for a really good inside linebacker.  Here is a look at what they have done so far this off-season:

Offensively:  The biggest move the Eagles made offensively was slapping the franchise tag on WR Desean Jackson.  He should play harder now that he’s getting paid more.  The Eagles have been busy on the O-Line as they have re-signed OT Todd Herremans, OT King Dunlap and OG Evan Mathis.  They also went out and signed OT Demetrius Bell (he’s going to start), OG Mike Gibson and G/C Steve Vallos.  The Eagles sign QB Trent Edwards who will compete with Mike Kafka in training camp for the #2 QB job in 2012.  The Eagles also took a flier on WR Mardy Gilyard.

Defensively:  The Eagles dealt a 4th round pick to the Texans for inside linebacker Demeco Ryans, who will make the Eagles’ run defense much better in 2012.  The Eagles also re-signed DE Trent Cole and that was a huge move as he is a great pass rusher.  DTs Derek Landri and Antonio Dixon were also brought back to provide depth on the interior of the D-Line in 2012.

GRADE FOR THE OFF-SEASON SO FAR:  A-

The Philadelphia Eagles re-sign DT Derek Landri

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 9 April 2012 at 4:29 pm

The Eagles have re-signed 28-year old DT Derek Landri to a 1-year deal.  Landri played in 12 games for the Eagles last year and he had 21 tackles, 2 sacks, 6 tackles for a loss, 1 fumble recovery and 1 pass defensed.  He has now played in 63 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 103 tackles, 8 sacks, 19 tackles for a loss, 2 fumble recoveries and 3 passes defensed.  This was a good move for the Eagles as Landri is a solid rotational DT.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign OT Demetrius Bell

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 5 April 2012 at 3:37 am

The Eagles have signed 27-year old OT Demetrius Bell to a 5-year deal.  Bell played in 7 games (6 starts) for the Buffalo Bills last year.  He has now played in 31 games (30 starts) in his first four years in the NFL.  This was a good move for the Eagles as Bell will likely replace Jason Peters in the starting lineup.

The Philadelphia Eagles re-sign OT King Dunlap

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Saturday 31 March 2012 at 12:00 am

The Eagles have re-signed 26-year old OT King Dunlap to a 1-year deal.  Dunlap played in 12 games (2 starts) for the Eagles last year.  He has now played in 38 games (7 starts) in his first three years with the Eagles.  The Eagles moved quick to re-sign Dunlap when informed about the injury to Jason Peters.

The Philadelphia Eagles lose LT Jason Peters for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 30 March 2012 at 11:56 pm

The Eagles will be without 30-year old LT Jason Peters for most, if not all, of the 2012 season due to surgery on April 2nd to repair a ruptured right Achilles.  He was injured while working out.  Peters played in 14 games (all starts) for the Eagles last year.  He has now played in 42 games (all starts) in his three years with the Eagles.  This is a big blow to the Eagles’ offense as Peters is one of the better tackles in all of football.

The Philadelphia Eagles acquire LB Demeco Ryans from the Texans

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Wednesday 21 March 2012 at 3:44 pm

The Eagles have acquired 27-year old inside linebacker Demeco Ryans and a 3rd round pick from the Houston Texans for a 3rd and 4th round pick.  The Eagles will be dropping back 12 slots in the 3rd round in their exchange of picks in that round with the Texans.  Ryans played in 16 games for the Texans last year and he had 64 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, 4 passes defensed and 1 forced fumble.  Ryans played in 86 games in his six years with the Texans and he had 637 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 32 tackles for a loss, 6 forced fumbles, 8 fumble recoveries, 25 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  This is a great move for the Eagles as they had big time issues stopping the run and Ryans is a tackling machine.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign G/C Steve Vallos

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 19 March 2012 at 9:25 pm

The Eagles have signed 28-year old G/C Steve Vallos.  Vallos played in 1 game (0 starts) for the Browns last year.  He has now played in 40 games (8 starts) in his first four years in the NFL.  This was a good signing for the Eagles as Vallos will help with the depth on the interior of the O-Line in 2012.
