The Philadelphia Eagles acquire Will Witherspoon from the Rams

The Eagles have acquired 29-year old inside linebacker Will Witherspoon from the Rams for rookie WR Brandon Gibson and a 5th round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.  Witherspoon should be just what the doctor ordered for the Eagles who have been having a hard time stopping both the run and dealing with RBs out of the backfield and TEs over the middle.  He played in 6 games this season for the Rams and he made 33 tackles and he forced 1 fumble.  Witherspoon has now played in 116 games in his NFL career and he has 685 tackles, 53 passes defensed, 19 sacks, 8 forced fumbles and he has 8 interceptions (one of which he returned for a TD).  Gibson has potential but he couldn’t get on the field this season for the Eagles due to the depth they have at WR.  This was a great move for the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles acquire OT Jason Peters from the Bills

The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired left offensive tackle Jason Peters from the Bills for their first round pick in 2009 (28th overall), a 4th rounder in 2009 and a undisclosed late round pick in the 2010 draft.  The Eagles then extended Peters contract for 4 years which makes him signed for the next six.  The 27-year old, 6’4″, 340 pound Peters is a mountain of a man who is nasty in run blocking but he did allow 11.5 sacks last season so McNabb better keep his drops short.  Peters played in 13 games (all starts) for the Bills last season.  He has now played in 65 games (55 starts) in his 5-year NFL career to date.  This could wind up being steal for the Eagles as Peters is a quality offensive lineman.

The Philadelphia Eagles trade WR Greg Lewis to the Patriots

The Philadelphia Eagles have traded 29-year old WR Greg Lewis and a undisclosed 2010 NFL Draft Pick for a 5th round pick in the 2009 Draft.  Lewis played in all 16 games for the Eagles last season and he caught 19 passes for 247 yards (13.0 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Lewis played 90 games in his career with the Eagles and he caught 127 passes for 1,699 yards (13.4 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  This was likely a good trade for the Eagles as Lewis has fallen behind some of the other younger WRs.

The Philadelphia Eagles trade Lito Sheppard to the Jets

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Friday 27 February 2009 at 10:50 pm

The Eagles have traded 27-year old cornerback Lito Sheppard to the Jets for a 5th round pick in 2009 and a conditional 2010 draft pick (2nd, 3rd or 4th rounder depending on Sheppard’s play in 2009).  Sheppard played in all 16 games for the Eagles last season and he made 21 tackles, defensed 4 passes, forced 1 fumble and he intercepted 1 pass.  He finished his 7-year career with the Eagles having played in 93 games in which he made 253 tackles, defensed 69 passes, had 2 sacks, forced 3 fumbles and he intercepted 18 passes (3 he returned for TDs).  The Eagles got good value for Sheppard as he was likely going to be the nickel back again in 2009 if he stayed in Philly.

The Philadelphia Eagles acquire fullback Luke Lawton from the Colts

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Saturday 7 June 2008 at 10:20 am

The Eagles have acquired fullback Luke Lawton from the Colts for a conditional 2009 7th round pick if Lawton makes the final 53-man roster of the Eagles.  Lawton is a big guy at 6’0″, 245 pounds and he’s a decent blocker.  He played in 11 games for the Colts last year and he carried the ball 5 times for 13 yards (2.6 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 29 yards (7.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Lawton also played in 4 games in 2005 for the Jets but he didn’t get to touch the football.  Lawton will have a decent chance to make the Eagles because he’s also a solid special teams player.
