The Philadelphia Eagles have traded 31-year old cornerback Sheldon Brown and 26-year old outside linebacker Chris Gocong to the Browns for 24-year old outside linebacker Alex Hall and a 4th and 5th round pick in this year’s NFL Draft. Brown played in all 16 games for the Eagles last season and he made 51 tackles, 2 tackle for a loss, forced 1 fumble, he defensed 17 passes and he intercepted 5 passes (152 return yards) returning one of them for a TD. He played in 128 games for the Eagles in his 8 years with them making 431 tackles, defensing 109 passes, he had 7 sacks, forced 7 fumbles and he had 19 interceptions (3 returned for TDs). Chris Gocong played in 15 games for the Eagles last season and he finished up with 44 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and he defensed 2 passes. In his three years with the Eagles, Gocong played in 47 games in which he had 169 tackles, he defensed 8 passes, had 4 sacks and he forced 2 fumbles. Both of them will have starting jobs with the Browns.
OLB Alex Hall is a interesting player. He played in 14 games making only 10 tackles for the Browns last season but that’s because he didn’t fit into their defensive scheme. He has played in 30 games in his two years in the NFL and he has made 38 tackles, forced 2 fumbles and he has 3 sacks. He has a nice upside. The draft picks will help the Eagles as long as they make smart selections. I honestly don’t think the Eagles got quite enough back in this trade.
