The Philadelphia Eagles acquire Jorrick Calvin from the Cardinals

The Eagles have acquired rookie CB Jorrick Calvin from the Cardinals for rookie RB Charles Scott.  Calvin played in 3 pre-season games for the Cardinals in which he made 5 tackles.  Calvin is a small guy at 5′10″, 184 pounds and he’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer.  He was academically inelgible last season.  He doesn’t have much of a track record as he only played one year in college.  He had 62 tackles, 1 forced fumble and 2 interceptions in 2008 for Troy.  He also returned 22 punts for 149 yards (6.8 avg) and 27 kickoff returns for 693 yards (25.7 avg) with 1 TD return in 2008.  Scott played in all 3 pre-season games for the Eagles and he carried the ball 1 time for 2 yards and he caught 1 pass for 0 yards.

The Philadelphia Eagles acquire J.J. Arrington from the Broncos

The Eagles have acquired 27-year old running back J.J. Arrington and a conditional 2012 draft pick for 25-year old inside linebacker Joe Mays.  Arrington missed all of last season due to microfracture surgery on his knee.  He last played in 2008 with the Cardinals.  Arrington has played in 58 games (8 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 183 times for 654 yards (3.6 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  He has also caught 91 passes for 693 yards (7.6 avg) with 2 TD grabs as he is a solid receiver out of the backfield.  Arrington could also help out the Eagles on special teams as he has returned 114 kickoffs for 2,694 yards (23.6 avg) with 2 TD grabs in his career.  Joe Mays played in 11 games as a rookie last season for the Eagles and he had 18 tackles, 1 forced fumble  and 1 tackle for a loss.  The Eagles can replace Mays and Arrington gives them another speedy back so I like this deal for them.

The Philadelphia Eagles have a stake in the recent Redskins’ trade for Jammal Brown

The Philadelphia Eagles will get a 3rd round pick from the Redskins if they win 9 or more games OR Donovan McNabb makes the Pro Bowl with the Saints getting a 4th round pick.  If neither of those things happen for the Redskins in 2010 the Eagles will get a 4th round pick from the Skins with the Saints getting a 3rd rounder.

The Philadelphia Eagles acquire Ernie Sims from the Lions in a three team trade

The Eagles have acquired 25-year old OLB Ernie Sims from the Lions.  The Eagles have sent a 5th round pick to the Broncos while Denver sent TE Tony Scheffler and a 7th round pick to the Lions.  Sims fills an immediate need for the Eagles and they will love this guy as he really hits hard.  Sims played in 11 games for the Lions last season in which he made 49 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and he defensed 1 pass.  He was dinged up most of last season.  He has now played in 59 games in his four years in the NFL in which he has 421 tackles, 5 passes defensed, he has 2.5 sacks, forced 4 fumbles and he has 1 interception.  This was outstanding value for a fifth round pick as the Eagles finally made a trade that  I like.

The Philadelphia Eagles trade Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins

Blogged under Trades, Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Eagles News, General by admin on Monday 5 April 2010 at 7:14 am

The Eagles have traded 33-year old QB Donovan McNabb to the division rival Washington Redskins for a 2nd round pick in this year’s NFL Draft (#37 overall) and a conditional 3rd or 4th round pick in the 2011 Draft based on McNabb’s performance in 2010.  McNabb played in 14 games last season for the Eagles and he completed 267 of 443 passes (60.3%) for 3,553 yards with 22 TD passes and 10 INTs (92.9 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 37 times for 140 yards (3.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs last year.  McNabb is the Eagles’ all time leader in TD passes and passing yards.  He played in 148 games in his 11 years with the Eagles.  In those games, McNabb completed 2,801 of 4,746 (59%) for 32,873 yards with 216 TD passes and 100 INTs (86.5 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 573 times for 3,249 yards (5.7 ypc) with 28 TD runs.  The Eagles better hope that McNabb’s career is almost over because you know he will be circling the two dates on his calendar when he will be lining up against them.
