Philadelphia Eagles (7-8) vs. Washington Redskins (5-10)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Wednesday 28 December 2011 at 7:32 pm

The Eagles are red hot right now as they have won three games in a row by a combined score of 91-34!  They also beat the Redskins 20-13 earlier this year in Washington.  The Redskins have lost three of their last four games as they are limping to the finish line.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles are likely to come out passing this Sunday in an effort to get the competitive part of the game done early.  To do that, the Eagles’ O-Line is going to have to give Michael Vick time to throw the ball.  The Redskins are giving up 215.9 yards passing per game, so Vick should have success throwing the ball as he will likely spread the ball around to TE Brent Celek and WRs Jeremy Maclin, Desean Jackson and Jason Avant.  Lesean McCoy has a ankle problem, so his workload won’t likely be a full one if he plays.  That means that they are hoping that Ronnie Brown will step up this weekend.

When the Redskins have the ball:  The Redskins have been starting to run the ball more with rookie RBs Evan Royster and Roy Helu.  That will likely be the same this weekend against an Eagles’ D that is giving up 111.4 yards rushing per game and 4.3 yards per carry.  The Eagles will be blitzing really heavily against the Redskins, which will put a lot of pressure on Rex Grossman.  Grossman threw four pickoffs in the first meeting between these two teams.

PREDICTION:  EAGLES 27, REDSKINS 17

Philadelphia Eagles (6-8) vs. Dallas Cowboys (8-6)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 24 December 2011 at 2:47 pm

The Eagles can still make the playoffs if they win out and get some help.  They have won two games in a row by a combined score of 71-29!  The Eagles also thumped the Cowboys 34-7 earlier this year in Philly.  The Cowboys beat up on the Buccaneers in Tampa, 31-15 last weekend.  If the Cowboys win out, they will win the NFC East.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles are going to probably be pretty balanced in this game offensively.  With Michael Vick still a tad gimpy with his bad ribs, Lesean McCoy has been getting more work running the ball…but that’s no problem as he is a pretty darn good RB.  The Eagles will need a good running game to help slow the Cowboys’ pass rush a little bit, because they are going to be coming after Michael Vick today.  To combat the blitzing game, Vick could decide to throw short passes to TE Brent Celek (156 yards receiving last weekend).  He still has Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin to stretch the field.

When the Cowboys have the ball:  Felix Jones is gimpy right now, so he won’t have a heavy workload if he plays at all.  Sammy Morris looked good last week against the Bucs, so he might be able to handle a heavy workload.  The Cowboys are going to be a pass first team though, due to the RB situation.  The Eagles already have 46 sacks this year, so they are going to try to pressure Tony Romo into making mistakes today.  Romo has an outstanding corps of receivers to throw to in TE Jason Witten and WRs Miles Austin, Laurent Robinson and Dez Bryant….so the Eagles’ secondary will have to step up today.

PREDICTION:  EAGLES 27, COWBOYS 23

Philadelphia Eagles (5-8) vs. New York Jets (8-5)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 17 December 2011 at 6:03 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles are going to try to play a spoiler the last couple of weeks of the year.  They looked good in thumping the Dolphins 26-10 in Miami last weekend.  The Jets have won three games in a row as they are trying to win a wildcard spot in the AFC playoffs.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles are going to try to run the ball on the Jets this weekend.  Lesean McCoy (1,172 yards rushing) is  going to have to work hard tomorrow as the Jets will likely be keying on him and they are only allowing 3.9 yards per carry so far this year.  The Jets don’t have a great pass rush, but they have an awesome secondary.  That means that Michael Vick is going to have to be careful throwing the ball to his banged up WRing corps.  I think the best bet for them will be to attack the middle of  the field and challenge the Jets’ safeties with a lot of throws to TE Brent Celek.

When the Jets have the ball:  The Eagles will try to focus on stopping RB Shonn Greene early in the game, forcing Mark Sanchez to beat them with his right arm.  The Eagles already have 42 sacks so far this year, so they are going to be coming after Mark Sanchez in an effort to make him throw the ball to their CBs.  WR Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes and TE Dustin Keller are all solid receivers, so the secondary is going to have their hands full tomorrow.

PREDICTION:  JETS 21, EAGLES 20

Philadelphia Eagles (4-8) vs. Miami Dolphins (4-8)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 8 December 2011 at 10:44 pm

The Eagles have lost four of their last five games as they have looked asleep at the wheel lately.  The Dolphins on the other hand have won four of their last five games as they are red hot right now.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles are getting Michael Vick back for this game.  He is likely going to stick around the pocket a lot more than usual in an attempt to protect himself.  That means that Lesean McCoy is going to likely have to carry the load in the running game against a Dolphins’ D that is only allowing 93.2 yards rushing per game and 3.7 yards per carry so far this year.  The Dolphins are giving up 248.9 yards passing per game so far this year, so if Vick has time to throw the ball, he should be able to make some plays down the field.  The WRs are banged up right now on the Eagles, so TE Brent Celek could have a bigger role than usual this Sunday.

When the Dolphins have the ball:  The Dolphins will likely try to be balanced offensively in this game.  The Eagles will have to deal with stopping Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas in this game and they have been running well lately.  The Eagles are going to blitz Matt Moore early and often in this game in an effort to get him to hurry his decision making.  It might backfire though as the Dolphins have been using a shorter passing game and letting their WRs and TEs make plays after the catch.

PREDICTION:  DOLPHINS 23, EAGLES 21

Philadelphia Eagles (4-7) vs. Seattle Seahawks (4-7)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 1 December 2011 at 1:23 pm

The Eagles have been one of the most disappointing teams of the year.  Vince Young dubbed the Eagles the “Dream Team”, but that moniker sure doesn’t fit.  The Eagles have lost three of their last four games as they have not been putting much of an effort up lately.  The Seahawks lost a game that should have won last week against the Redskins, but they are a tough home team.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles could be in trouble tonight as they are banged up on offense.  Lesean McCoy has a banged up toe and he was going to have trouble with the Seahawks’ D even if they was 100% healthy as they are only giving up 100.9 yards rushing per game and 3.5 yards per carry.  Vince Young needs to protect the ball better instead of throwing the ball up for grabs as he has been lately.  WRs Riley Cooper and Desean Jackson are going to have to have good games tonight if the Eagles are going to win.  TE Brent Celek has been playing well lately, but Vince Young has to be careful throwing to him as safeties Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas are playmakers at the back end of the Seahawks’ D.

When the Seahawks have the ball:  The Seahawks are likely to run the ball a lot in this game as Marshawn Lynch has been playing his best football in the last few games.  The Eagles are giving up 110.3 yards rushing per game and 4.3 yards per carry so far this year, but they have been playing a lot better against the running game lately.  The Eagles have 30 sacks already this year and the Seahawks have given up 36 of them, so QB Tarvaris Jackson might be running for his life tonight.  Jackson will likely have to keep the passing game shorter and let his WRs, TEs and RBs get yards after the catch.

PREDICTION:  EAGLES 23, SEAHAWKS 17

Philadelphia Eagles (4-6) vs. New England Patriots (7-3)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 26 November 2011 at 1:23 pm

The Eagles stopped a 2-game slide last weekend by beating the Giants 17-10 in New Jersey.  The Patriots have won two games in a row by a combined score of 71-19!  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles won’t likely change the offense much in this game.  They will try to get Lesean McCoy going early in this game running the ball and he should be effective against a pretty soft front seven of the Patriots’ D.  That will help slow the Patriots’ pass rush and give QB Vince Young more time to throw the ball and attack their somewhat weak secondary.  The Eagles will likely be without Jeremy Maclin again this Sunday.  Look for Young to be looking for TE Brent Celek and WRs Riley Cooper a lot this weekend.  It would also help if Desean Jackson would step up in this game.

When the Patriots have the ball:  The Patriots are going to be chucking the ball all over the place.  The Eagles hope that their D-Line can put a lot of pressure on Tom Brady to screw up his timing with his WRs and TEs.  If Brady has time to throw the ball, he’s going to have success against the vastly overrated secondary of the Eagles.  TEs Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez are going to cause huge mis-match problems for the Eagles’ LBs and safeties.  The Eagles’ front seven is also going to have to deal with power runner BenJarvus Green-Ellis, who is very effective when opposing teams overplay the Patriots’ passing game.

PREDICTION:  PATRIOTS 27, EAGLES 23

Philadelphia Eagles (3-6) vs. New York Giants (6-3)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 19 November 2011 at 10:55 pm

The Eagles have lost two games in a row, both at home, against the Bears and Cardinals.  The Giants lost last weekend but they are still in first place in the AFC East.  The Giants thumped the Eagles in Philly earlier this year by a score of 29-16.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles might lean on the run more than usual in this game with Lesean McCoy having a heavy workload against a Giants’ D that is allowing 121.6 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry so far this year.  Vince Young will likely be running for his life against the Giants who already have 30 sacks so far this year.  He will be without the Eagles’ top receiver (Jeremy Maclin) due to injury.  The passing game is going to have to be shorter than usual and that is not Young’s strength.

When the Giants have the ball:  The Eagles’ LBs and D-Linemen better tighten up the chinstraps, because they are going to get a heavy dose of RB Brandon Jacobs in this game.  The Eagles know that they are going to have to get after Eli Manning if they want to win this game.  If Manning has time to throw the ball, he’s going to attack the very overrated secondary of the Eagles down the field with Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham.  TE Jake Ballard is likely going to be the Giants’ secret weapon tomorrow night, so the safeties of the Eagles better be ready for him.

PREDICTION:  GIANTS 27, EAGLES 10

Philadelphia Eagles (3-5) vs. Arizona Cardinals (2-6)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 11 November 2011 at 8:09 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles will look to rebound after losing 30-24 to the Bears last Monday Night in Philly.  The Arizona Cardinals finally broke a six game losing streak last weekend against the Rams, 19-13 in O.T.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles are going to try to get the running game going early this Sunday to set up the passing game.  Lesean McCoy and Michael Vick will likely find more running room against the Cardinals than they did against the Bears last weekend, but the Cards only only giving up 3.9 yards per carry so it won’t be easy.  Michael Vick will also likely have more time to throw the ball, so Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin could be in line for big games today.  TE Brent Celek, WR Jason Avant and RB Lesean McCoy are also likely to get targeted a bit in the passing game this weekend, making the passing game even more deadly than usual.

When the Cardinals have the ball:  The Cardinals might try to give the Eagles a heavy dose of Beanie Wells on the ground in this game.  The Eagles will likely try to put a lot of pressure on QB John Skelton, who is making only his second start of the season.  The Eagles will focus on stopping WR Larry Fitzgerald, forcing Skelton to beat them throwing the ball to guys like Early Doucet, Andre Roberts and his TEs.

PREDICTION:  EAGLES 34, CARDINALS 10

Philadelphia Eagles (3-4) vs. Chicago Bears (4-3)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 5 November 2011 at 8:31 pm

The Eagles have won two games in a row as they are starting to look like the dynamo that many “experts” expected them to be in 2011.  The Bears have also won two games in a row and they are coming off their bye week.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles don’t change for anyone.  They are going to run the ball and throw deep.  The Bears are giving up 5.2 yards per carry so far this year, so Lesean McCoy and Michael Vick should have outstanding games running the ball.  The Eagles O-Line will need to keep DE Julius Peppers out of the backfield and that is easier said than done.  The Bears are also giving up 271.9 yards passing per game, so Vick will likely be taking a lot of shots deep to Jeremy Maclin and Desean Jackson.  Vick will also keep Jason Avant, Lesean McCoy and Brent Celek busy in the passing game this Monday Night.

When the Bears have the ball:  The Eagles have to focus on stopping Matt Forte in this game.  Forte has 672 yards rushing (5.4 ypc) and 419 yards receiving (11.0 avg) so far this year as he has been the focal point of the Bears’ offense.  The Eagles will be getting after Jay Cutler, who tends to throw the ball to the wrong team after he gets whacked good a couple of times in the first half.  He does like using all of his WRs, so the Eagles won’t likely have the luxury of double teaming anyone in this game.

PREDICTION:  EAGLES 30, BEARS 21

Philadelphia Eagles (2-4) vs. Dallas Cowboys (3-3)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 29 October 2011 at 10:22 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off their bye week, so they have had two weeks to get ready for the HUGE GAME tomorrow night at home against the Cowboys.  The Cowboys thrashed the Rams 34-7 in Dallas last weekend.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles will likely come out throwing the ball tomorrow night instead of challenging the rock solid run D of the Cowboys (69.7 yards rushing per game and 3.3 yards per carry).  To do that though, the Eagles are going to have to keep the Cowboys’ DEs and OLBs out of the backfield.  That will be easier said than done, as OLB DeMarcus Ware of the Cowboys already has 8 sacks so far this year.  If Vick has time to throw the ball, he’s going to make plays down the field to Jeremy Maclin, DeSean Jackson and Jason Avant.  The Eagles are going to need to get something out of Lesean McCoy against the Cowboys’ D in an effort to keep them honest.

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Cowboys are going to give the Eagles’ D fits all night long tomorrow.  Rookie RB DeMarco Murray is the kind of back that gives the Eagles fits, as they are on the small side on the inside.  The Eagles’ secondary has also proven to be vastly overrated so far this year.  The Eagles will need to get pressure on Tony Romo and force him into making some mistakes with the football.  If Romo has time to throw, he has the weapons to make the Eagles pay in TE Jason Witten and WRs Miles Austin and Dez Bryant.

PREDICTION:  COWBOYS 30, EAGLES 27
