Riley Cooper is stepping up for the Philadelphia Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 1 December 2011 at 4:28 am

24-year old WR Riley Cooper has played in 11 games this year for the Eagles, but his 8 catches for 146 yards (18.3 avg) with 1 TD grab has all happened in this last two games.  He has now played in 24 games in his first two years with the Eagles and he has caught 15 passes for 262 yards (17.5 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Cooper is getting big time points with the organization as he has really stepped up for them when they needed him most.

DE Jason Babin is playing well for the Philadelphia Eagles so far this year

31-year old DE Jason Babin has been a free agent that the Eagles signed after the lockout that was worth the money he got.  Babin has played in 9 games for the Eagles so far this year and he has 23 tackles, 9 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 passes defensed and 1 forced fumble.  He has now played in 21 games in his first two years with the Eagles and he has 39 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble and 2 passes defensed.  The Eagles need Babin to keep up the good work.

The WRs are playing pretty well for the Philadelphia Eagles so far this year

The Philadelphia Eagles are getting good production out of their WRs so far in 2011.  Jeremy Maclin has been the most consistently good WR for the Eagles so far this year.  He has caught 37 passes for 489 yards (13.2 avg) with 3 TD grabs so far this year.  DeSean Jackson is still the best downtown threat for the Eagles.  He has caught 24 passes for 456 yards (19.0 avg) with 2 TD grabs so far this year.  Some have suddenly questioned his toughness over the middle of the field, but overall, he has been solid.  Jason Avant is a solid #3 WR for the Eagles.  He has caught 26 passes for 338 yards (13.0 avg) so far this year.  He does all of the dirty work over the middle for the Eagles.  Steve Smith will be a huge asset when he’s finally back to near 100% healthy.  Smith has caught 5 passes for 63 yards (12.6 avg) so far this year.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ running game has been amazing so far this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Saturday 22 October 2011 at 8:12 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles are averaging 170.0 yards rushing per game so far this year and an incredible 5.7 yards per carry!  Lesean McCoy and Michael Vick are going the heavy lifting in the running game for the Eagles.  McCoy has played in six games for the Eagles so far this year and he has carried the ball 105 times for 569 yards (5.4 ypc) with 6 TD runs.  He has also caught 21 passes for 123 yards (5.9 ypc) with 2 TD runs so far in 2011.  QB Michael Vick continues to run well.  He has played in all six games for the Eagles so far this year and he has carried the ball 45 times for 372 yards (8.3 ypc), which is pretty darn impressive.  Ronnie Brown is still an Eagle.  He has played in six games this year and he has carried the ball 13 times for 38 yards (2.9 ypc).  Rookie RB Dion Lewis has also played in all six games for the Eagles and he has 7 carries for 31 yards (4.4 ypc).  He has also caught 1 pass for -3 yards.  The Eagles need to continue to make teams pay that try to stop their passing game.

There could be a changing of the guard at TE for the Philadelphia Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Wednesday 5 October 2011 at 8:40 pm

In 26-year old TE Brent Celek’s first four years with the Eagles, he played in 64 games in which he caught 161 passes for 1,978 yards (12.3 avg) with 14 TD grabs.  But this year, Celek has played in all four games for the Eagles and he has caught only 8 passes for 67 yards (8.4 avg).  24-year old Clay Harbor is starting to emerge at TD for the Eagles.  He has played in all four games for the Eagles so far this year and he has caught 4 passes for 72 yards (18.0 avg) with 1 TD grab.  As a rookie last year, Harbor played in 9 games for the Eagles in which he caught 9 passes for 72 yards (8.0 avg) with 1 TD grab.  I think one of the big reasons that Michael Vick likes throwing more to Harbor than Celek is because he gets down the field more.  Vick rarely looks to throw shorter passes unless he’s going to Lesean McCoy out of the backfield.

The defensive line is getting a good rush on the QB for the Philadelphia Eagles

28-year old DE Trent Cole, 31-year old DE Jason Babin and 30-year old DT Cullen Jenkins of the Eagles are getting a good rush on opposing QBs as they have 11 of the Eagles’ 12 sacks so far this year!  Trent Cole has played in all 3 games for the Eagles so far this year and he has 14 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks and 1 pass defensed.  Jason Babin is bringing the heat from the other side of the D as he has 9 tackles, 4 sacks and 1 tackle for a loss so far this year.  DT Cullen Jenkins is having an awesome start to the 2011 season as he has 9 tackles, 4 sacks and 2 tackles for a loss so far this year.  Opposing QBs can just sit in the pocket with this trio chasing them and the Eagles hope they can keep up the good work going forward.

Lesean McCoy is off to a great start for the Philadelphia Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Wednesday 21 September 2011 at 8:46 pm

23-year old RB Lesean McCoy is off to an outstanding start for the Eagles so far this year.  He has played in both of the Eagles games so far this year and he has carried the ball 33 times for 217 yards (6.6 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  McCoy has also caught 6 passes for 36 yards (6.0 avg) with 1 TD grab this year.  If Michael Vick isn’t ready to play by this weekend, look for McCoy to get the ball a lot more than he has in the first two weeks.

Michael Vick of the Philadelphia Eagles is heading home this weekend

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 15 September 2011 at 3:19 am

31-year old QB Michael Vick will be returning to the scene of the crime this weekend as his Eagles are heading to Atlanta to deal with the Falcons on Sunday Night Football.  Vick played his first six years in the NFL with the Falcons.  He was quickly replaced by Matt Ryan as the starting QB, while he was in the pokey.  Vick wasn’t very accurate in the season opener for the Eagles as he only completed 14 of 32 passes (43.8%) for 187 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs (83.7 QB Rating).  Vick also carried the ball 11 times for 97 yards (8.8 ypc) against the Rams last week.  The Eagles are going to need Vick to be in the right frame of mind this weekend if they are going to beat the Falcons in the Georgia Dome.  The crowd is going to be live in Atlanta.

Michael Vick is locked in as the starting QB of the Philadelphia Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Thursday 27 January 2011 at 9:14 pm

30-year old Michael Vick truly had a “career year” for the Eagles in 2010 due to his passing.  Vick played in 12 games for the Eagles last season and he completed 233 of 372 passes (62.6%) for 3,018 yards with 21 TD passes and 6 INTs (100.2 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 100 times for 676 yards (6.8 ypc) with 9 TD runs last season.  Vick has now played in 98 games in his NFL career and he has completed 1,169 of 2,115 passes (55.3%) for 14,609 yards with 93 TD passes and 58 INTs (80.2 QB Rating).  Vick has also carried the ball 653 times for 4,630 yards (7.1 ypc) with 32 TD runs in his career so far.  Vick is locked in as the Eagles starting QB.

26-year old Kevin Kolb lost his job when he suffered a concussion in the season opener.  He played in 7 games for the Eagles last season and he completed 115 of 189 passes (60.8%) for 1,197 yards with 7 TD passes and 7 INTs (76.1 QB Rating).  Kolb also carried the ball 15 times for 65 yards (4.3 ypc) last season.  He has now played in 19 games in his career with the Eagles and he has completed 194 of 319 passes (60.8%)  for 2,082 yards with 11 TD passes and 14 INTs (73.2 QB Rating).  Kolb has also carried the ball 36 times for 64 yards (1.8 ypc) with 1 TD run so far in his career.

VERDICT:  The Eagles are talking about trading Kevin Kolb but I wouldn’t do that unless they get a king’s ransom for him.  That’s because Michael Vick is a running QB who gets banged up alot, so the Eagles need a good backup.

Quintin Mikell have been outstanding this year for the Philadelphia Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Friday 31 December 2010 at 1:28 am

30-year old safety Quintin Mikell is playing some of the best football of his NFL career this year.  Mikell has played in 15 games so far this year for the Eagles and he has 88 tackles, 1 sack, 5 tackles for a loss, 15 passes defensed, 3 interceptions, 1 forced fumble and 3 fumble recoveries.  Mikell has now played in 123 games in his first 8 years with the Eagles and he has 446 tackles, 46 passes defensed, 4 sacks, 7 forced fumbles and 10 interceptions.  Mikell bided his time early in his career with the Eagles and he learned well from the veterans on the team as he is playing outstanding football right now.
