The Philadelphia Eagles release Kevin Curtis

The Eagles have released 31-year old WR Kevin Curtis.  Curtis played in 3 games for the Eagles last season in which he caught 6 passes for 77 yards (12.8 avg).  He played in 28 games in his career for the Eagles in which he 116 passes for 1,577 yards (13.6 avg) with 8 TD grabs.  The Eagles have a lot of talented receivers on the roster so they won’t miss Curtis too much.

The Philadelphia Eagles release DE Darren Howard

The Eagles have released 33-year old DE Darren Howard.  Howard played in all 16 games for the Eagles last season in which he made 24 tackles, defensed 3 passes, had 6.5 sacks and he forced 2 fumbles.  He played in 64 games in his four years with the Eagles and he made 93 tackles, defensed 12 passes, had 22.5 sacks, he forced 5 fumbles and he had 1 interception.  Howard was a decent player for the Eagles but they like Darryl Tapp better than him.

The Philadelphia Eagles release Shawn Andrews

Blogged under Leaving Town, Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Eagles News, General by admin on Wednesday 17 March 2010 at 2:46 pm

The Eagles have released 27-year old offensive lineman Shawn Andrews.  Andrews is a big man at 6′4″, 335 pounds but he didn’t play last season.  He played in 50 games (all starts) with the Eagles in his career with them.  It’s kind of a shock to see the Eagles to cut such a talented lineman but his off-field issues made this likely a good move for them.

The Philadelphia Eagles release Will Witherspoon

The Eagles have released 29-year old linebacker Will Witherspoon.  Witherspoon played in 11 games for the Eagles last season and he made 58 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 5 passes defensed and 1 interception (he returned in 9 yards for a TD).  I’m not so sure that I like this move for the Eagles as Witherspoon played great for them after coming over from the Panthers in a trade last year.

The Philadelphia Eagles release Brian Westbrook

Blogged under Leaving Town, Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Eagles News, General by admin on Tuesday 23 February 2010 at 9:37 pm

The Eagles have released 30-year old running back Brian Westbrook.  Westbrook played in 8 games for the Eagles last season and he carried the ball 61 times for 274 yards (4.5 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 25 passes for 181 yards (7.2 avg) with 1 TD grab last season.  The company line is that the Eagles released Westbrook before free agency began to give him a better shot of finding another team but the real reason that got rid of him is because he makes a lot of money and he’s injury prone.  Westbrook played in 107 games for the Eagles in his career and he carried the ball 1,308 times for 5,995 yards (4.6 ypc) with 37 TD runs.  He also caught 426 passes for 3,790 yards (8.9 avg) with 29 TD grabs.  Westbrook finishes his career with the Eagles #2 all-time in rushing yards, #3 in rushing TDs, #3 in receptions and #10 in receiving TDs.  The Eagles will give Lesean McCoy more carries in his second year and they will likely look to add at least one running back in free agency, through the draft or a trade to help McCoy with the workload.
