Philadelphia Eagles 24, Chicago Bears 20

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Game Reports by Andrew on Monday 23 November 2009 at 10:25 pm

Despite having 3 turnovers, the Philadelphia Eagles (6-4) were able to take down the Chicago Bears (4-6).  The Eagles got off to a good start and were up 10-0 after the first quarter, but the Bears held them scoreless in the second and got three Robbie Gould field goals to make it a 10-9 halftime score.  The Bears got another Gould field goal to open up the second half scoring.  Donovan McNabb and the Eagles answered though and retook the lead when he hit DeSean Jackson for a 48-yard touchdown pass.  McNabb ended up with 244 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception on 23/32 passes.  Michael Vick was very effective in his few opportunities.  He had a big 34-yard run in the 1st quarter that led to the Eagles first quarter field goal.  LeSean McCoy added 99 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

The Eagles defense did not do a good job stopping the Bears’ running game.  They let Kahlil Bell rush for 81 yards on 4 carries, including a huge 72-yard run.  It was Bell’s first action of his career, and the Eagles were not able to contain the rookie.  They were able to contain Matt Forte to only 34 yards on 14 carries, but the Bears ended up with 126 rushing yards as a team.  The Eagles did a great job attacking the struggling Jay Cutler.  Cutler was off all night and the Eagles held him to 171 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception on 24/43 attempts.  Sean Jones got the interception off Cutler on the Bears final drive.  After the Eagles scored with a little over 5 minutes left in the game, Jones ended any hopes of a Bear’s comeback when he intercepted a deflected Cutler pass.  It was not a very sharp game for the Eagles, but they did enough to get the win.

Philadelphia Eagles 23, San Diego Chargers 31

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Game Reports by Andrew on Tuesday 17 November 2009 at 12:02 am

The Philadelphia Eagles (5-4) could not keep up with the San Diego Chargers (6-3) in their game Sunday, as field goals were not enough.  The Eagles were only able to get three field goals through the first three quarters, while the Chargers were able to reach the endzone four times in that period.  Donovan McNabb and the offense finally got some more things going in the fourth quarter, and made it a 28-16 game early in the final period on a McNabb touchdown pass to Jeremy Maclin.  McNabb was able to get the Eagles even closer, making it a 28-23 game when he hit Brett Celek for a touchdown with 7 minutes to play.  They were not able to get anything else though, and the Chargers added a late field goal to seal it.  McNabb had a huge day, but did throw one pick.  He ended up with a ridiculous 450 passing yards and two touchdowns on 35/55 pass attempts.  McNabb had to throw it so much because the running game could not do anything, finishing with 29 yards as a team.

The Eagles defense did enough to keep the Eagles in the game and give McNabb a chance to comeback, but it wasn’t enough.  They did not do a good job against the Chargers running game, which has been struggling all year.  LaDainian Tomlinson has his best game of the season, rushing for 2 touchdowns and 96 yards on 24 carries.  They also let Philip Rivers go 20/25 for 231 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Both of his touchdown passes were for 20 yards, so the Eagles could not stop the big play when it was needed.  The Eagles put up a good fight, but without a running game they just did not have enough weapons to match the high-powered Chargers’ offense.

Philadelphia Eagles 16, Dallas Cowboys 20

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Game Reports by Andrew on Tuesday 10 November 2009 at 9:12 pm

Donovan McNabb and the Phildelphia Eagles were not on top of their game Sunday and fell to the Dallas Cowboys.  McNabb threw two interceptions, the first multi-interception game of the season for him.  The Eagles were without their star running back Brian Westbrook for the second straight game due to a concussion, but LeSean McCoy filled in nicely for Westbrook.  McCoy rushed for 54 yards on 13 carries and added five catches for 61 yards.  It wasn’t enough though, and without McNabb off his game the Cowboys were able to take advantage.

Tony Romo and the Cowboys offense were able to get a first quarter touchdown when Tashard Choice ran it in from the two yard line.  The Eagles defense did a good job keeping them out the end zone for the next 2 1/2 quarters, but Romo was able to find the dangerous Miles Austin for a 49-yard touchdown.  It was Austin’s only catch of the game and proved to be a costly one.  The touchdown put the Cowboys up 20-13 with about eight minutes to play, but the Eagles could only answer with a field goal.  They were not able to get any more points on the board after that and fell 20-16.  This game was very even and McNabb’s two interceptions ended up being very costly, as ball control ended up being very important in this one.  The Cowboys won the turnover battle and it was one of the main reasons the Eagles lost this one.

Philadelphia Eagles 40, New York Giants 17

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Game Reports by Andrew on Monday 2 November 2009 at 10:18 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles made a statement in this game and crushed the New York Giants.  The Eagles offense was able to make a bunch of huge plays, and it all started in the first quarter when Leanard Weaver darted 41 yards for a touchdown.  The Eagles built a big 17-0 lead early in the half and went into halftime up 31-7.  McNabb had a great game, throwing for 240 yards and three touchdowns on 17/23 attempts.  McNabb’s favorite target in this game was DeSean Jackson, who caught 3 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown.  The touchdown came on a 54-yard strike from McNabb in the second quarter.  Brian Westbrook sat out with a concussion, but LeSean McCoy and Leonard Weaver did a great job filling in for him.  They combined for 157 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.

The Eagles defense did a very good job disrupting Eli Manning and the Giants passing game.  They picked off Manning twice, but he did find the endzone once.  He only completed about 50% of his passes though (20/39) and did not look very confident.  They did an okay job slowing their run game down, as Brandon Jacobs got 86 yards on 20 carries but did not score.  The special teams were able to recover a fumble too, so the Eagles got contributions from the whole team.  This was a big win for the Eagles as they completely outplayed the Giants in this one.

Philadelphia Eagles 27, Washington Redskins 17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Reports by admin on Tuesday 27 October 2009 at 6:49 am

The Philadelphia Eagles took it to the Redskins putting up all 27 of their points in the first quarter.  Donovan McNabb was efficient completing 15 of 25 passes for 156 yards with 1 TD pass.  Michael Vick also got some P.T. in this game as he completed his only pass attempt for 5 yards.  He also ran the ball 3 times for 9 yards (3.0 ypc) yesterday.  Lesean McCoy didn’t have his best game filling in for a injured Brian Westbrook as he carried the ball 14 times for 37 yards (2.6 ypc).  He also caught 5 passes for 30 yards (6.0 avg) against the Redskins.  Desean Jackson was the game changer for the Eagles in this game as he caught 2 passes for 69 yards (34.5 avg) with a TD and he also carried the ball 1 time and it went for a 67-yard TD.  Rookie WR Jeremy Maclin pitched in with 5 receptions for 53 yards (10.6 avg) in this game.  The Eagles finished up with 244 total yards on offense (122 rushing, 122 passing) as they only had possession of the football for 28:17 in this game.

The defense was in bend but don’t break mode last night.  LB Akeem Jordan led the way for the Eagles in this game with 10 tackles.  Will Witherspoon was electric in his first game with the Eagles as he finished up with 8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed, 1 QB hit and he returned a interception 9 yards for a TD.  What a debut for Witherspoon!  DE Trent Cole was in the backfield a lot for the Eagles as he made 3 tackles, had 2 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss and he had 2 QB hits.  The Redskins finished up with 308 total yards on offense (62 rushing, 246 passing) in this game.  The Eagles are now 4-2 on the season.

Oakland Raiders 13, Philadelphia Eagles 9

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Reports by admin on Monday 19 October 2009 at 3:36 pm

What an awful game the Eagles played yesterday as they seemed to think they had another bye week.  Donovan McNabb was off in this game completing 22 of 46 passes for 269 yards.  Brian Westbrook was one of the few players who came to play for the Eagles in this game as he carried the ball 6 times for 50 yards (8.3 ypc) and he also caught 9 passes for 91 yards (10.1 avg).  Desean Jackson had a impressive game too with 6 grabs for 94 yards (15.7 avg).  TE Brent Celek pitched in with 4 receptions for 75 yards (18.8 avg) yesterday.  The Eagles finished up with 325 total yards on offense (116 rushing, 209 passing) in this game.

Linebackers Chris Gocong (10 tackles) and Omar Gaither (7 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) led the way for the Eagles in this game.  CB Asante Samuel and safety Quintin Mikell each picked off a JaMarcus Russell pass in this game.  The Raiders finished up with 325 total yards of offense in this game (116 rushing, 209 passing).  The Eagles are now 3-2 on the season.

Philadelphia Eagles 33, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Game Reports by Andrew on Monday 12 October 2009 at 8:13 am

Donovan McNabb showed no signs of rust in his first game back for the Philadelphia Eagles (3-1) as they easily beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-5) Sunday at home.  McNabb, in his first game back from a broken rib, went for three touchdowns and 264 yards on 16/21 attempts (76%).  The Eagles didn’t even need a running game, as they killed the Bucs despite having only 76 rushing yards.  The Eagles got a great game from their secondary, as they had three interceptions off Buccaneers’ quarterback Josh Johnson.  Asante Samuels had two picks and Sheldon Brown had one.  The Eagles’ defense also got three sacks and pressured Johnson all game.  They also shut down Bucs’ running back Cadillac Williams, holding him to eight yards on 10 carries (0.8 avg).

The Eagles were up 31-7 in the fourth quarter, so Michael Vick got some extra opportunities at the quarterback position.  He completed his first pass of the year, going 1/3 for one yard.  He also carried the ball four times for 10 yards (2.5 avg).  The Eagles were obviously the better football team and proved it in almost every aspect of the game.  The Eagles will have an easy win coming again, when they take on the Oakland Raiders on the road Sunday.

Philadelphia Eagles 34, Kansas City Chiefs 14

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Reports by admin on Monday 28 September 2009 at 1:43 pm

The Eagles dominated this game from start to finish.  A lot of the younger players on offense really stepped up for the Eagles in this win.  It all starts with the QB and Kevin Kolb was sharp completing 24 of 34 passes for 327 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs. Kolb also had a 1-yard TD run in this game.  Lesean McCoy stepped in for a injured Brian Westbrook and he carried the ball 20 times for 84 yards (4.2 ypc) with a TD and he also caught 1 pass for 9 yards.  WR Desean Jackson had another huge game against the Chiefs with 6 receptions for 149 yards (24.8 avg) with a TD grab.  TE Brent Celek was also really busy in this game with 8 receptions for 104 yards (13.0 avg) with a TD grab.  The Eagles finished up with 420 total yards on offense (93 rushing, 327 passing) in this game.

The Eagles’ defense was electric in this game.  LB Omar Gaither led the way with 9 tackles, a sack and a tackle for a loss.  DE Trent Cole also had a good game with 8 tackles, 1/2 a sack and a tackle for a loss.  The Chiefs could only muster 196 total yards on offense in this game (99 rushing, 97 passing).  The Eagles are now 2-1 on the season.

New Orleans Saints 48, Philadelphia Eagles 22

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Reports by admin on Monday 21 September 2009 at 10:56 am

The Philadelphia Eagles had to know this would be a tough game for them to win.  But they were only down 17-13 at the half before the roof caved in.  Kevin Kolb completed 31 of 51 passes in this game for 391 yards with 2 TD passes and 3 interceptions (one was a pick six by Darren Sharper of the Saints….it went for 97 yards!).  Brian Westbrook led the way in the running game with 13 carries for 52 yards (4.0 ypc) before leaving the game with a injury.  DeSean Jackson caught 4 passes for 101 yards (25.3 avg) with a TD.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 15 yards (5.0 ypc) in the game yesterday.  TE Brent Celek (8 rec, 104 yards) and WR Jason Avant (7 rec, 79 yards, TD) also pitched in for the Eagles in the passing game.  The Eagles finished up with 463 total yards on offense (85 rushing, 378 passing) but it wasn’t nearly enough to deal with the Saints in this game.

Safety Quintin Mikell (11 tackles) and LB Akeem Jordan (9 tackles, interception) led the way for the Eagles’ D in this game.  The Saints finished up with 421 total yards in this game (133 rushing, 288 passing) and that won’t cut it.  The Eagles fell to 1-1 on the season with this loss.

Philadelphia Eagles 38, Carolina Panthers 10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Reports by admin on Monday 14 September 2009 at 10:16 am

The Panthers drew first blood in this game scoring a TD but that just seemed to fire up the Eagles who dismantled them the rest of the game.  Donovan McNabb completed 10 of 18 passes for 79 yards with 2 TD passes and a interception before leaving the game with a cracked rib.  He will likely miss next week’s game with the Saints.  Kevin Kolb finished up the game and he didn’t look too great completing 7 of 11 passes for only 23 yards and he lost a fumble.  Brian Westbrook had a solid game with 64 yards rushing on 13 carries (4.9 ypc) while also catching 3 passes for 8 yards (2.7 avg) with a TD.  Rookie Lesean McCoy also was solid in his NFL debut carrying the ball 9 times for 46 yards (5.1 ypc).  TE Brent Celek led the way in the passing game for the Eagles with 6 catches for 37 yards (6.2 avg) with 1 TD grab.  The Eagles finished up this game with 267 total yards on offense (185 rushing, 82 passing).

The Eagles dominated this game defensively as they had five sacks, 5 interceptions and they had two fumble recoveries.  One of the fumble recoveries was returned 2 yards for a TD by Victor Abiamiri.  The Eagles were even solid on special teams in this game as Desean Jackson scored on a 85-yard punt return.  The Panthers only finished up with 169 total yards in this game (86 rushing, 83 passing).
