The Eagles have signed 26-year old safety Jarrad Page to a 1-year deal.  Page played in 10 games for the Patriots last year and he had 12 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  He has now played in 63 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 210 tackles, 30 passes defensed, 12 interceptions, 4 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 4 forced fumbles and 4 fumble recoveries.  This was a solid signing for the Eagles as Page has been a solid player in his career so far.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign RB Ronnie Brown

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 3:55 pm

The Eagles have signed 29-year old RB Ronnie Brown to a 1-year deal.  Brown played in 16 games (all starts) for the Dolphins last year and he carried the ball 200 times for 734 yards (3.7 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He has also caught 33 passes for 242 yards (7.3 avg) for the Fins last year.  Brown has now played in 76 games (71 starts) in his first six years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 1,128 times for 4,815 yards (4.3 ypc) with 36 TD runs.  He has also caught 184 passes for 1,891 yards (8.1 avg) with 2 TD grabs so far in his career.  Brown will also bring the threat of the trick play as he was the Dolphins’ QB in the Wildcat Formation.  Brown has completed 4 of 12 passes (33.3%) for 63 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs (91.3 QB Rating).  Brown will strictly be LeSean McCoy’s backup and little more unless he is injured.  I really like this move for the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign OG Evan Mathis

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 2 August 2011 at 2:07 am

The Eagles have signed 29-year old OG Evan Mathis.  Mathis played in 12 games (0 starts) for the Bengals last year.  He has now played in 58 games (22 starts) in his first six years in the NFL.  The Eagles needed to add depth to the offensive line and that’s the reason for this signing.  Mathis could work his way into some decent playing time if he looks good in training camp.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign DT Cullen Jenkins

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 1 August 2011 at 7:20 pm

The Eagles have signed DT/DE Cullen Jenkins to a 5-year, $25 million dollar deal.  The 30-year old Jenkins played in 11 games for the Packers last year and he had 18 tackles, 7 sacks and 1 pass defensed.  Jenkins has now played in 93 games in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has 194 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, 29 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, 16 passes defensed and 1 interception.  Jenkins will play both tackle and end for the Eagles as this was a really good signing for them.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign CB Nnamdi Asomugha

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Saturday 30 July 2011 at 6:59 pm

The Eagles swooped in out of nowhere and they inked 30-year old cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha to a 5-year, $60 million dollar deal.  Asomugha played in 14 games for the Raiders last year and he had 19 tackles and defensed 6 passes.  He has now played in 122 games in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has 310 tackles, 19 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 11 interceptions (he returned one of them 62 yards for a TD) and he has defensed 62 passes.  His numbers aren’t that impressive because he’s rarely challenged.  Adding Asomugha to Asante Samuel and Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie give the Eagles without a doubt the top cornerbacking unit in the entire NFL.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign TE Donald Lee

The Eagles have signed 30-year old TE Donald Lee to a 1-year deal.  Lee played in 15 games (6 starts) for the Packers last year and he caught 11 passes for 73 yards (6.6 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Lee has now played in 124 games (64 starts) in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has caught 198 passes for 1,875 yards (9.5 avg) with 19 TD grabs.  This was a nice signing as Lee is a solid backup TE.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Eagles have released Donald Lee.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign WR Johnnie Lee Higgins

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Saturday 30 July 2011 at 6:50 pm

The Eagles have signed 27-year old WR/PR/KR Johnnie Lee Higgins to a 1-year deal.  Higgins played in 13 games (1 start) for the Raiders last year and he caught 10 passes for 103 yards (10.3 avg).  Higgins also returned 17 punts for 123 yards (7.2 avg) last year.  Higgins has now played in 60 games (11 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has caught 57 passes for 779 yards (13.7 avg) with 4 TD grabs and he has also carried the ball 7 times for 58 yards (8.3 ypc).  Higgins has also returned 115 punts for 973 yards (8.5 avg) with 3 TD returns and he has also returned 36 kickoffs for 842 yards (23.4 avg) so far in his NFL career.  The Eagles definately signed Higgins for his special teams work but he could also help out as a threat down the field because of his speed.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Eagles have released Johnnie Lee Higgins.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign QB Vince Young

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 8:58 pm

The Eagles have signed 28-year old QB Vince Young to a 1-year deal to backup Michael Vick.  Young played in 9 games (8 starts) for the Titans last year and he completed 93 of 156 passes (59.6%) for 1,255 yards with 10 TD passes and 3 INTs (98.6 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 25 times for 125 yards (5.0 ypc) last year.  Young has now played in 54 games (47 starts) in his first five years in the NFL and he has completed 689 of 1,190 passes (57.9%) for 8,098 yards with 42 TD passes and 42 INTs (75.7 QB Rating).  Young has also carried the ball 264 times for 1,380 yards (5.2 ypc) with 12 TD runs.  Young is 30-17 (63.8%) as a starting QB and he has also made it to 2 Pro Bowls.  If Young keeps his head on straight, he could be a better backup QB than Kevin Kolb would have been.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign DE Jason Babin

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 28 July 2011 at 11:19 pm

The Eagles have signed 31-year old DE Jason Babin to a 5-year, $28 million dollar deal.  Babin played in 16 games for the Titans last year and he had 58 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and he had 8 tackles for a loss.  Babin has now played in 80 games in his first six years in the NFL and he has 230 tackles, 19 tackles for a loss, 30 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and he’s defensed 7 passes.  Babin played for the Eagles back in 2009.  He played in 12 games for the Eagles in 2009 and he had 16 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 2.5 sacks.  He will likely be much better this time around for the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles ink Rashad Jeanty

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Sunday 20 February 2011 at 6:40 pm

The Eagles have signed 27-year old linebacker Rashad Jeanty.  Jeanty missed all of the 2010 season due to leg and ankle injuries.  He has played in 53 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 215 tackles, 5 passes defensed and 5 forced fumbles.  Jeanty will help out the Eagles’ depth at linebacker in 2011 and he will also help them out a little bit on special teams.  This was a solid signing for the Eagles as long as Jeanty is healthy.
