The Philadelphia Eagles sign OLB Chris Wilson

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 9 August 2011 at 12:44 pm

The Eagles kept busy as they have signed 29-year old OLB Chris Wilson.  Wilson played in all 16 games for the Redskins last year and he had 18 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and 1 tackle for a loss.  He has now played in 64 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 65 tackles, 6 sacks, 4 tackles for a loss and 3 forced fumbles.  Wilson will give the Eagles more depth and LB and he should be able to help them on special teams too.  This was a solid pickup so late in free agency.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without DT Mike Patterson for possibly a really long time

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 5 August 2011 at 12:34 pm

The Eagles will likely be without 27-year old DT Mike Patterson for a long time.  He collapsed on the field during practice earlier this weak.  Initially the Eagles thought he was just dehyrated.  But when he went to the hospital they discovered that he has tangled blood vessels in his skull.  Patterson will either have to undergo surgery or radiation treatment to fix his problem.  Patterson will likely miss most, if not all of the 2011 season.  This is a pretty big blow to the Eagles as Patterson is a pretty solid  DT.  Patterson played in 15 games for the Eagles last year and he had 37 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss and 1 fumble recovery.  He has now played in 95 games in his first six years with the Eagles and he has 297 tackles, 21 tackles for a loss, 13 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 6 fumble recoveries, 4 passes defensed and 1 interception.

UPDATE:  In what has to be deemed a miracle, Mike Patterson has been released from the hospital.  He will likely return to the football field early next week.  In other Eagles’ news, they have released 24-year old DE Ricky Sapp.  Sapp missed his entire rookie season due to injury.

The Philadelphia Eagles lose DE Victor Abiamiri for the season

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 5 August 2011 at 12:29 pm

The Eagles have lost 25-year old DE Victor Abiamiri for the entire 2011 season as he tore his ACL in practice.  He didn’t play last year either due to injury.  In his four years with the Eagles, Abiamiri has played in 29 games in which he has 30 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 4 passes defensed.  He might be running out of time with the Philadelphia Eagles due to repeated injuries.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign DT Derek Landri

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 4 August 2011 at 3:33 pm

The Eagles have signed 27-year old DT Derek Landri to a 1-year deal.  Landri played in all 16 games for the Panthers last year and he had 43 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and 1 pass defensed.  He has now played in 51 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 82 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, 6 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and 2 passes defensed.  Landri is an undersized, all-effort DT and he should do well for the Eagles.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Eagles have released Derek Landri.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign DE/DT Anthony Hargrove

The Eagles have signed 28-year old DE/DT Anthony Hargrove.  Hargrove played in 14 games for the Saints last year and he had 29 tackles, 1 sack, 2 tackles for a loss and 3 forced fumbles.  He has now played in 87 games in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has 205 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss, 16.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries and 6 passes defensed.  This was a good depth signing for the Eagles as Hargrove is a solid player.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Eagles have released Anthony Hargrove.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign OT Ryan Harris

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 4:00 pm

The Eagles have signed 26-year old OT Ryan Harris to a 1-year deal.  Harris played in 11 games (10 starts) for the Broncos last year.  He has now played in 46 games (34 starts) in his first four years in the NFL.  This is a good signing for the Eagles as Harris could step into the starting lineup if needed.  If nothing else, Harris gives the Eagles a backup player with a lot of playing experience.

UPDATE:  (8/26/2011) – The Eagles have lost Ryan Harris indefinitely due to back surgery.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Eagles have released Ryan Harris.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign safety Jarrad Page

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 3:58 pm

The Eagles have signed 26-year old safety Jarrad Page to a 1-year deal.  Page played in 10 games for the Patriots last year and he had 12 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  He has now played in 63 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 210 tackles, 30 passes defensed, 12 interceptions, 4 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 4 forced fumbles and 4 fumble recoveries.  This was a solid signing for the Eagles as Page has been a solid player in his career so far.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign RB Ronnie Brown

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 3:55 pm

The Eagles have signed 29-year old RB Ronnie Brown to a 1-year deal.  Brown played in 16 games (all starts) for the Dolphins last year and he carried the ball 200 times for 734 yards (3.7 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He has also caught 33 passes for 242 yards (7.3 avg) for the Fins last year.  Brown has now played in 76 games (71 starts) in his first six years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 1,128 times for 4,815 yards (4.3 ypc) with 36 TD runs.  He has also caught 184 passes for 1,891 yards (8.1 avg) with 2 TD grabs so far in his career.  Brown will also bring the threat of the trick play as he was the Dolphins’ QB in the Wildcat Formation.  Brown has completed 4 of 12 passes (33.3%) for 63 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs (91.3 QB Rating).  Brown will strictly be LeSean McCoy’s backup and little more unless he is injured.  I really like this move for the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign OG Evan Mathis

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 2 August 2011 at 2:07 am

The Eagles have signed 29-year old OG Evan Mathis.  Mathis played in 12 games (0 starts) for the Bengals last year.  He has now played in 58 games (22 starts) in his first six years in the NFL.  The Eagles needed to add depth to the offensive line and that’s the reason for this signing.  Mathis could work his way into some decent playing time if he looks good in training camp.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign DT Cullen Jenkins

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 1 August 2011 at 7:20 pm

The Eagles have signed DT/DE Cullen Jenkins to a 5-year, $25 million dollar deal.  The 30-year old Jenkins played in 11 games for the Packers last year and he had 18 tackles, 7 sacks and 1 pass defensed.  Jenkins has now played in 93 games in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has 194 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, 29 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, 16 passes defensed and 1 interception.  Jenkins will play both tackle and end for the Eagles as this was a really good signing for them.
