The Philadelphia Eagles release C/G Mike McGlynn

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 5:00 pm

The Eagles have released 26-year old C/G Mike McGlynn.  McGlynn played in 16 games (14 starts) for the Eagles last year.  He played in 19 games (14 starts) in his three years with the Eagles.  Due to his versatility along the interior of the O-Line, I don’t think McGlynn will be out of work too long.  The Eagles might regret his move down the line unless some guys really step up.

The Philadelphia Eagles release CB Joselio Hanson

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 12:51 pm

The Eagles have released 30-year old CB Joselio Hanson.  Hanson played in 15 games for the Eagles last year and he had 36 tackles, 6 passes defensed and 1 interception.  He played in 75 games in his five years with the Eagles and he had 209 tackles, 36 passes defensed, 4 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries, 5 tackles for a loss and 2 sacks.  The Eagles tried to deal Hanson before cutting him but found no takers.  He will hook on with another team soon, but the Eagles won’t miss him too much as they are loaded at corner.

UPDATE:  (9/7/2011) – The Eagles have re-signed cornerback Joselio Hanson to a new 2-year deal.

The Philadelphia Eagles release LB Rashad Jeanty

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 2:13 am

The Eagles have released 28-year old linebacker Rashad Jeanty.  Jeanty has played in 53 games in five years in the NFL and he has 215 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, forced 5 fumbles, recovered 4 fumbles and he has defensed 5 passes.  The Eagles will likely want to keep tabs on Jeanty as they could have trouble at linebacker in 2011.

The Philadelphia Eagles release PR/KR Jorrick Calvin

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 1:20 am

The Eagles have released 24-year old PR/KR Jorrick Calvin.  Calvin played in 12 games for the Eagles as a rookie last year and he returned 12 punts for 125 yards (10.4 avg).  He also returned 32 kickoffs for 692 yards (21.6 avg) in 2010 for the Eagles.  The Eagles have guys that they like better as return men then Calvin, so this move makes perfect sense.  Calvin might hook up with another team in 2011.

The Philadelphia Eagles re-sign G/T Reggie Wells

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Saturday 20 August 2011 at 6:18 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles have re-signed 30-year old G/T Reggie Wells.  Wells played in 8 games (1 start) for the Eagles last season.  He has now played in 112 games (91 starts) in his first 8 years in the NFL.  The Eagles were lucky that Wells was still available on the free agent market.  His versatility and knowledge of the playbook makes this a very solid signing for the Eagles.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Eagles have released Reggie Wells.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign WR Steve Smith

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 11 August 2011 at 1:06 pm

The Eagles have signed 26-year old WR Steve Smith to a 1-year, $4 million dollar deal with $2 million of it guaranteed.  Smith is coming off of knee surgery and he won’t likely be ready to play until mid-October.  Still, I like this move for the Eagles as they stole Smith away from the division rival New York Giants.  Smith played in 9 games (7 starts) for the Giants last year and he caught 48 passes for 529 yards (11.0 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  He has now played in 46 games (26 starts) in his first four years in the NFL and he has caught 220 passes for 2,386 yards (10.8 avg) with 11 TD grabs.  Smith is a good WR when he’s healthy, so I like this move for the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign OLB Chris Wilson

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 9 August 2011 at 12:44 pm

The Eagles kept busy as they have signed 29-year old OLB Chris Wilson.  Wilson played in all 16 games for the Redskins last year and he had 18 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and 1 tackle for a loss.  He has now played in 64 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 65 tackles, 6 sacks, 4 tackles for a loss and 3 forced fumbles.  Wilson will give the Eagles more depth and LB and he should be able to help them on special teams too.  This was a solid pickup so late in free agency.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without DT Mike Patterson for possibly a really long time

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 5 August 2011 at 12:34 pm

The Eagles will likely be without 27-year old DT Mike Patterson for a long time.  He collapsed on the field during practice earlier this weak.  Initially the Eagles thought he was just dehyrated.  But when he went to the hospital they discovered that he has tangled blood vessels in his skull.  Patterson will either have to undergo surgery or radiation treatment to fix his problem.  Patterson will likely miss most, if not all of the 2011 season.  This is a pretty big blow to the Eagles as Patterson is a pretty solid  DT.  Patterson played in 15 games for the Eagles last year and he had 37 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss and 1 fumble recovery.  He has now played in 95 games in his first six years with the Eagles and he has 297 tackles, 21 tackles for a loss, 13 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 6 fumble recoveries, 4 passes defensed and 1 interception.

UPDATE:  In what has to be deemed a miracle, Mike Patterson has been released from the hospital.  He will likely return to the football field early next week.  In other Eagles’ news, they have released 24-year old DE Ricky Sapp.  Sapp missed his entire rookie season due to injury.

The Philadelphia Eagles lose DE Victor Abiamiri for the season

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 5 August 2011 at 12:29 pm

The Eagles have lost 25-year old DE Victor Abiamiri for the entire 2011 season as he tore his ACL in practice.  He didn’t play last year either due to injury.  In his four years with the Eagles, Abiamiri has played in 29 games in which he has 30 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 4 passes defensed.  He might be running out of time with the Philadelphia Eagles due to repeated injuries.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign DT Derek Landri

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 4 August 2011 at 3:33 pm

The Eagles have signed 27-year old DT Derek Landri to a 1-year deal.  Landri played in all 16 games for the Panthers last year and he had 43 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and 1 pass defensed.  He has now played in 51 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 82 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, 6 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and 2 passes defensed.  Landri is an undersized, all-effort DT and he should do well for the Eagles.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Eagles have released Derek Landri.
