Philadelphia Eagles (7-8) vs. Washington Redskins (5-10)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Wednesday 28 December 2011 at 7:32 pm

The Eagles are red hot right now as they have won three games in a row by a combined score of 91-34!  They also beat the Redskins 20-13 earlier this year in Washington.  The Redskins have lost three of their last four games as they are limping to the finish line.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles are likely to come out passing this Sunday in an effort to get the competitive part of the game done early.  To do that, the Eagles’ O-Line is going to have to give Michael Vick time to throw the ball.  The Redskins are giving up 215.9 yards passing per game, so Vick should have success throwing the ball as he will likely spread the ball around to TE Brent Celek and WRs Jeremy Maclin, Desean Jackson and Jason Avant.  Lesean McCoy has a ankle problem, so his workload won’t likely be a full one if he plays.  That means that they are hoping that Ronnie Brown will step up this weekend.

When the Redskins have the ball:  The Redskins have been starting to run the ball more with rookie RBs Evan Royster and Roy Helu.  That will likely be the same this weekend against an Eagles’ D that is giving up 111.4 yards rushing per game and 4.3 yards per carry.  The Eagles will be blitzing really heavily against the Redskins, which will put a lot of pressure on Rex Grossman.  Grossman threw four pickoffs in the first meeting between these two teams.

The Philadelphia Eagles send a trio of players to the Pro Bowl

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Pro Bowl by admin on Wednesday 28 December 2011 at 7:25 pm

The Eagles are sending three players to the Pro Bowl.  31-year old DE Jason Babin has been incredible for the Eagles so far this year.  He has played in 15 games for the Eagles so far this year and he has 38 tackles, 18 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss, 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.  He has been a true late bloomer for the Eagles.  23-year old RB Lesean McCoy turned in the best year of his NFL career in 2011.  He has played in 15 games for the Eagles so far this year and he has carried the ball 273 times for 1,309 yards (4.8 ypc) with 17 TD runs.  McCoy has also caught 48 passes for 315 yards (6.6 avg) with 3 TD grabs so far this year.  29-year old OT Jason Peters has played in 13 games (all starts) for the Eagles so far this year.  All three of the Eagles going to the Pro Bowl were elected to the team as starters.

Philadelphia Eagles 20, Dallas Cowboys 7

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Reports,General by admin on Monday 26 December 2011 at 8:25 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles knocked out Tony Romo early in this game and it was easy sailing after that.  Michael Vick was very solid throwing the ball as he connected on 18 of 32 passes for 293 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 10 yards (3.3 ypc) in this game.  Lesean McCoy (13 carries for 35 yards) and Ronnie Brown (8 carries for 33 yards) pitched in for the Eagles in the running game.  WR Desean Jackson (5 receptions for 90 yards and 2 carries for 27 yards), WR Jeremy Maclin (5 rec, 72 yards, TD) and TE Brent Celek (2 rec, 52 yards, TD) led the way for the Eagles in the passing game.  The Eagles finished up with 105 yards rushing on 26 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 32 passes (56.3%) for 281 yards as they had possession of the ball for 27:37.

The defense was outstanding for the Eagles in this game.  CB Nnamdi Asomugha led the way for the Eagles in this game with 8 tackles.  DE Trent Cole (6 tackles, 1 sack, 2 tackles for a loss and 3 QB hits) and OLB Casey Matthews (6 tackles and 1 QB hit) also had solid games for the Eagles.  The Cowboys finished up with 81 yards rushing on 23 carries (3.5 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 40 passes (60%) for 157 yards in this game.  The Eagles are now 7-8 on the season.

Philadelphia Eagles (6-8) vs. Dallas Cowboys (8-6)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 24 December 2011 at 2:47 pm

The Eagles can still make the playoffs if they win out and get some help.  They have won two games in a row by a combined score of 71-29!  The Eagles also thumped the Cowboys 34-7 earlier this year in Philly.  The Cowboys beat up on the Buccaneers in Tampa, 31-15 last weekend.  If the Cowboys win out, they will win the NFC East.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles are going to probably be pretty balanced in this game offensively.  With Michael Vick still a tad gimpy with his bad ribs, Lesean McCoy has been getting more work running the ball…but that’s no problem as he is a pretty darn good RB.  The Eagles will need a good running game to help slow the Cowboys’ pass rush a little bit, because they are going to be coming after Michael Vick today.  To combat the blitzing game, Vick could decide to throw short passes to TE Brent Celek (156 yards receiving last weekend).  He still has Desean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin to stretch the field.

When the Cowboys have the ball:  Felix Jones is gimpy right now, so he won’t have a heavy workload if he plays at all.  Sammy Morris looked good last week against the Bucs, so he might be able to handle a heavy workload.  The Cowboys are going to be a pass first team though, due to the RB situation.  The Eagles already have 46 sacks this year, so they are going to try to pressure Tony Romo into making mistakes today.  Romo has an outstanding corps of receivers to throw to in TE Jason Witten and WRs Miles Austin, Laurent Robinson and Dez Bryant….so the Eagles’ secondary will have to step up today.

Philadelphia Eagles 45, New York Jets 19

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Reports,General by admin on Monday 19 December 2011 at 6:43 am

The Eagles destroyed the Jets today!  Michael Vick had a solid game as he completed 15 of 22 passes for 274 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 5 times for 32 yards (6.4 ypc) with 1 TD run in this game.  Lesean McCoy led the way on the ground for the Eagles in this game with 18 carries for 102 yards (5.7 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  TE Brent Celek had a huge game, just like I predicted he would, as he caught 5 passes for 156 yards (31.2 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  WR Jeremy Maclin pitched in with 3 grabs for 57 yards (19.0 avg).  The Eagles finished up with 160 yards rushing on 33 carries (4.8 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 22 passes (68.2%) for 260 yards as they had possession of the ball for 30:03.

The Eagles’ D was flat out awesome in this game.  DE Phillip Hunt (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit), LB Akeem Jordan (6 tackles) and DE Jason Babin (4 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 tackles for a loss and 3 QB hits) led the way for the Eagles on D in this game.  LB Jamar Chaney (interception), CB Joselio Hanson (fumble recovery) and DE Juqua Parker (fumble recovery that he returned 47 yards for a TD) also made HUGE plays for the Eagles in this game.  The Jets finished up with 94 yards rushing on 27 carries (3.5 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 29 passes (55.2%) for 147 yards.  The Eagles are now 6-8 on the season and believe it or not…..they can still win the NFC East and get back to the playoffs.

Philadelphia Eagles (5-8) vs. New York Jets (8-5)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 17 December 2011 at 6:03 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles are going to try to play a spoiler the last couple of weeks of the year.  They looked good in thumping the Dolphins 26-10 in Miami last weekend.  The Jets have won three games in a row as they are trying to win a wildcard spot in the AFC playoffs.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles are going to try to run the ball on the Jets this weekend.  Lesean McCoy (1,172 yards rushing) is  going to have to work hard tomorrow as the Jets will likely be keying on him and they are only allowing 3.9 yards per carry so far this year.  The Jets don’t have a great pass rush, but they have an awesome secondary.  That means that Michael Vick is going to have to be careful throwing the ball to his banged up WRing corps.  I think the best bet for them will be to attack the middle of  the field and challenge the Jets’ safeties with a lot of throws to TE Brent Celek.

When the Jets have the ball:  The Eagles will try to focus on stopping RB Shonn Greene early in the game, forcing Mark Sanchez to beat them with his right arm.  The Eagles already have 42 sacks so far this year, so they are going to be coming after Mark Sanchez in an effort to make him throw the ball to their CBs.  WR Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes and TE Dustin Keller are all solid receivers, so the secondary is going to have their hands full tomorrow.

QB has been a disaster for the Philadelphia Eagles this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 15 December 2011 at 2:47 pm

Everyone in Philly was bragging about their QB depth before the season started.  Backup QB Vince Young gave the Eagles the moniker of the “Dream Team”…..too bad he has done nothing to help the team this year.  31-year old Michael Vick has been banged up this year, but that isn’t an excuse for his disappointing performance this year.  Vick has played in 10 games for the Eagles so far this year and he has completed 196 of 330 passes (59.4%) for 2,401 yards with 12 TD passes and 12 INTs (78.9 QB Rating).  Vick has also carried the ball 67 times for 544 yards (8.1 ypc) so far this year.  Vick has proved this year, that his 2010 season was a mirage.  28-year old Vince Young has been terrible for the Eagles this year.  He has played in 5 games for the Eagles so far this year and he has completed 66 for 114 passes (57.9%) for 866 yards with 4 TD passes and 9 INTs (60.8 QB Rating).  Young has also carried the ball 18 times for 79 yards (4.4 ypc) so far this year.  24-year old Mike Kafka is still a work in progress.  He has played in 2 games for the Eagles so far this year and he has completed 11 of 16 passes (68.8%) for 107 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs (47.7 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 1 time for 2 yards.  The Eagles expected a lot out of this trio of QBs, but they have let them down….big time!

The Philadelphia Eagles lose WR Steve Smith for the rest of the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 13 December 2011 at 1:57 pm

The Eagles have placed 26-year old WR Steve Smith on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season due to a bone bruise in his left knee.  Smith played in 9 games for the Eagles this year and he caught 11 passes for 124 yards (11.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  He has now played in 55 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has caught 231 passes for 2,510 yards (10.9 avg) with 12 TD grabs.  The Giants knew that Smith had a bad knee when they signed him, so it’s no surprise that he’s being shut down for a knee problem.  He didn’t do much for  the Eagles this year, so they won’t miss him too much.

Philadelphia Eagles 26, Miami Dolphins 10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Reports,General by admin on Monday 12 December 2011 at 3:42 pm

The Eagles dropped 24 points on the Dolphins in the second quarter and the defense set up a lot of those points and made the lead stand up.  Michael Vick returned to action yesterday and he completed 15 of 30 passes for 208 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 9 yards (4.5 ypc).  Lesean McCoy had a rough time yesterday as he carried the ball 27 times for 38 yards (1.4 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  He also caught 3 passes for 33 yards (11.0 avg) in this game.  WR Desean Jackson (4 rec, 59 yards, TD) and TE Brent Celek (4 rec, 39 yards) led the way for the Eagles in the passing game.  The Eagles finished up with 51 yards rushing on 32 carries (1.6 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 30 passes (50%) for 188 yards as they had possession of the ball for 31:21.

The defense finally played the way the Eagles thought it could yesterday.  The Eagles had 9 sacks in this game!  DE Trent Cole (7 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss and 3 QB hits), safety Kurt Coleman (6 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) and DE Jason Babin (3 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss and 2 QB hits) led the way for the Eagles yesterday.  CB Asante Samuel (fumble recovery), DT Mike Patterson (fumble recovery) and DE Phillip Hunt (sack for a safety) also made big plays for the Eagles in this game.  The Dolphins finished up with 109 yards rushing on 26 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 29 passes (58.6%) for 95 yards.  The Eagles are now 5-8 on the season.

Philadelphia Eagles (4-8) vs. Miami Dolphins (4-8)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 8 December 2011 at 10:44 pm

The Eagles have lost four of their last five games as they have looked asleep at the wheel lately.  The Dolphins on the other hand have won four of their last five games as they are red hot right now.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles are getting Michael Vick back for this game.  He is likely going to stick around the pocket a lot more than usual in an attempt to protect himself.  That means that Lesean McCoy is going to likely have to carry the load in the running game against a Dolphins’ D that is only allowing 93.2 yards rushing per game and 3.7 yards per carry so far this year.  The Dolphins are giving up 248.9 yards passing per game so far this year, so if Vick has time to throw the ball, he should be able to make some plays down the field.  The WRs are banged up right now on the Eagles, so TE Brent Celek could have a bigger role than usual this Sunday.

When the Dolphins have the ball:  The Dolphins will likely try to be balanced offensively in this game.  The Eagles will have to deal with stopping Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas in this game and they have been running well lately.  The Eagles are going to blitz Matt Moore early and often in this game in an effort to get him to hurry his decision making.  It might backfire though as the Dolphins have been using a shorter passing game and letting their WRs and TEs make plays after the catch.

PREDICTION:  DOLPHINS 23, EAGLES 21
