The Philadelphia Eagles place Moise Fokou on I.R.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 30 November 2011 at 12:19 am

The Eagles have placed 26-year old linebacker Moise Fokou on the Injured Reserve List due to a ankle injury.  Fokou played in 11 games for the Eagles this year and he finished up with 22 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 2 tackles for a loss.  He has now played in 43 games in his first three years with the Eagles and he has 112 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries, 4 tackles for a loss and 4 passes defensed.  This will hurt the Eagles’ depth at linebacker and it will hurt the special teams.

New England Patriots 38, Philadelphia Eagles 20

The Patriots jumped all over the Eagles in this game before essentially calling off the dogs.  Vince Young rolled up some impressive numbers after this game was decided.  He completed 26 of 48 passes for 400 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT today.  Young also carried the ball 6 times for 40 yards (6.7 ypc) in this game.  The Patriots essentially took Lesean McCoy out of the game today.  He carried the ball 10 times for 31 yards (3.1 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 4 passes for 30 yards (7.5 avg) today.  WR Jason Avant led the way for the Eagles in the passing  game with 110 yards on 8 grabs (13.8 avg) with 1 TD grab.  TE Brent Celek (5 rec, 75 yards), WR Desean Jackson (4 rec, 73 yards) and WR Riley Cooper (3 rec, 71 yards) also pitched in for the Eagles in the passing game today.  The Eagles finished up with 73 yards rushing on 17 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 26 of 48 passes (54.2%) for 393 yards as they had possession of the ball for 27:17.

The defense was horrible for the Patriots today.  Safety Kurt Coleman led the way for the Eagles in this game with 12 tackles.  CB Joselio Hanson (6 tackles) and safety Nate Allen (6 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss) also had solid games for the Eagles today.  The Patriots finished up with 104 yards rushing on 36 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 34 passes (70.6%) for 353 yards in this game.  The Eagles are now an awful 4-7 on the season.

Philadelphia Eagles (4-6) vs. New England Patriots (7-3)

The Eagles stopped a 2-game slide last weekend by beating the Giants 17-10 in New Jersey.  The Patriots have won two games in a row by a combined score of 71-19!  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles won’t likely change the offense much in this game.  They will try to get Lesean McCoy going early in this game running the ball and he should be effective against a pretty soft front seven of the Patriots’ D.  That will help slow the Patriots’ pass rush and give QB Vince Young more time to throw the ball and attack their somewhat weak secondary.  The Eagles will likely be without Jeremy Maclin again this Sunday.  Look for Young to be looking for TE Brent Celek and WRs Riley Cooper a lot this weekend.  It would also help if Desean Jackson would step up in this game.

When the Patriots have the ball:  The Patriots are going to be chucking the ball all over the place.  The Eagles hope that their D-Line can put a lot of pressure on Tom Brady to screw up his timing with his WRs and TEs.  If Brady has time to throw the ball, he’s going to have success against the vastly overrated secondary of the Eagles.  TEs Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez are going to cause huge mis-match problems for the Eagles’ LBs and safeties.  The Eagles’ front seven is also going to have to deal with power runner BenJarvus Green-Ellis, who is very effective when opposing teams overplay the Patriots’ passing game.

The Philadelphia Eagles need Vince Young to step up

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Needs to Step Up by admin on Thursday 24 November 2011 at 2:41 am

28-year old QB Vince Young is basking in the glow of winning his first start of the year over the division rival New York Giants.  He has been getting a lot of press saying that he should be the starting QB even when Michael Vick is ready to return to action.  That is nuts!  Young has played in 3 games for the Eagles so far this year and he has completed 23 of 37 passes (62.2%) for 258 yards with 2 TD passes and 4 INTs (61.4 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 7 times for 7 yards (1.0 ypc) so far this year.  Young is not a better QB than Micheal Vick, period.  But for now, the Eagles need Young to step up and play better than he did against the Giants as long as he is in the starting lineup.

The Eagles outplayed the Giants in every facet of the game last night to get a big road win.  Vince Young was good and bad in this game as he completed 23 of 36 passes for 258 yards with 2 TD passes and 3 INTs.  Lesean McCoy had a very solid game with 113 yards rushing on 23 carries (4.9 ypc) last night.  WR Desean Jackson (6 rec, 88 yards), WR Riley Cooper (5 rec, 75 yards, TD) and TE Brent Celek (6 rec, 60 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Eagles last night.  WR Steve Smith pitched in with 1 catch for 14 yards, with the result being a TD.  The Eagles finished up with 136 yards rushing on 33 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 36 passes (63.9%) for 255 yards as they had possession of the ball for 36:18.

The defense was very solid for the Eagles last night.  LB Jamar Chaney (6 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception), DT Mike Patterson (5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1/2 a sack and 1 QB hit) and DE Jason Babin (3 tackles, 1 sack, 2 QB hits and a key forced fumble) led the way for the Eagles’ D.  DT Derek Landri pitched in with 2 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 fumble recovery last night.  The Giants finished up with 29 yards rushing on 17 carries (1.7 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 35 passes (51.4%) for 249 yards in this game.  The Eagles are now 4-6 on the year.

Philadelphia Eagles (3-6) vs. New York Giants (6-3)

The Eagles have lost two games in a row, both at home, against the Bears and Cardinals.  The Giants lost last weekend but they are still in first place in the AFC East.  The Giants thumped the Eagles in Philly earlier this year by a score of 29-16.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles might lean on the run more than usual in this game with Lesean McCoy having a heavy workload against a Giants’ D that is allowing 121.6 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry so far this year.  Vince Young will likely be running for his life against the Giants who already have 30 sacks so far this year.  He will be without the Eagles’ top receiver (Jeremy Maclin) due to injury.  The passing game is going to have to be shorter than usual and that is not Young’s strength.

When the Giants have the ball:  The Eagles’ LBs and D-Linemen better tighten up the chinstraps, because they are going to get a heavy dose of RB Brandon Jacobs in this game.  The Eagles know that they are going to have to get after Eli Manning if they want to win this game.  If Manning has time to throw the ball, he’s going to attack the very overrated secondary of the Eagles down the field with Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham.  TE Jake Ballard is likely going to be the Giants’ secret weapon tomorrow night, so the safeties of the Eagles better be ready for him.

Michael Vick of the Philadelphia Eagles is out for tomorrow’s game with the Giants

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up by admin on Saturday 19 November 2011 at 10:19 pm

31-year old QB Michael Vick is out for tomorrow night’s game against the Giants due to broken ribs.  He has played in 9 games for the Eagles so far this year and he has completed 181 of 300 passes (60.3%) for 2,193 yards with 11 TD passes and 11 INTs (79.8 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 65 times for 535 yards (8.2 ypc) so far this year.  28-year old Vince Young will get the start tomorrow night.  He has played in 2 games for the Eagles so far this year and he is 0 for 1 passing with 1 interception (0.0 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 1 time for 2 yards this year.  Young has never played in a pass first offense, so he might not be up to the challenge.  Young has played in 56 games in his first six years in the NFL and he has completed 689 of 1,191 passes (57.9%) for 8,098 yards with 42 TD passes and 43 INTs (75.3 QB Rating).  Young has also carried the ball 265 times for 1,382 yards (5.2 ypc) with 12 TD runs so far in his career.  The Eagles might need Vince Young to start for a few weeks, so they need him to step up.

WR Jeremy Maclin of the Philadelphia Eagles is out for tomorrow night’s game

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up by admin on Saturday 19 November 2011 at 10:09 pm

23-year old WR Jeremy Maclin is going to miss tomorrow’s game with the Giants due to shoulder and hamstring injuries.  Maclin has played in 9 games for the Eagles so far this year and he has caught 46 passes for 612 yards (13.3 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  24-year old Riley Cooper will replace Maclin in the starting lineup.  Cooper has played in 9 games for the Eagles this year but he has yet to catch a pass.  He played in 13 games last year for the Eagles and he caught 7 passes for 116 yards (16.6 avg) with 1 TD grab.  The Eagles will also need Desean Jackson, Jason Avant and Steve Smith to step up too.

DE Jason Babin is playing well for the Philadelphia Eagles so far this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Saturday 19 November 2011 at 10:04 pm

31-year old DE Jason Babin has been a free agent that the Eagles signed after the lockout that was worth the money he got.  Babin has played in 9 games for the Eagles so far this year and he has 23 tackles, 9 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 passes defensed and 1 forced fumble.  He has now played in 21 games in his first two years with the Eagles and he has 39 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble and 2 passes defensed.  The Eagles need Babin to keep up the good work.

The Philadelphia Eagles waive safety Jarrad Page

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Thursday 17 November 2011 at 7:43 pm

The Eagles have waived 27-year old safety Jarrad Page.  Page played in 6 games for the Eagles this year and he had 37 tackles and 2 passes defensed.  He has now played in 69 games in his first six years in the NFL and he has 247 tackles, 12 interceptions, 32 passes defensed, 4 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 4 forced fumbles and 4 fumble recoveries.  Page will likely hook on with another team this year, but the Eagles won’t miss him too much.
