Michael Vick is locked in as the starting QB of the Philadelphia Eagles

30-year old Michael Vick truly had a “career year” for the Eagles in 2010 due to his passing.  Vick played in 12 games for the Eagles last season and he completed 233 of 372 passes (62.6%) for 3,018 yards with 21 TD passes and 6 INTs (100.2 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 100 times for 676 yards (6.8 ypc) with 9 TD runs last season.  Vick has now played in 98 games in his NFL career and he has completed 1,169 of 2,115 passes (55.3%) for 14,609 yards with 93 TD passes and 58 INTs (80.2 QB Rating).  Vick has also carried the ball 653 times for 4,630 yards (7.1 ypc) with 32 TD runs in his career so far.  Vick is locked in as the Eagles starting QB.

26-year old Kevin Kolb lost his job when he suffered a concussion in the season opener.  He played in 7 games for the Eagles last season and he completed 115 of 189 passes (60.8%) for 1,197 yards with 7 TD passes and 7 INTs (76.1 QB Rating).  Kolb also carried the ball 15 times for 65 yards (4.3 ypc) last season.  He has now played in 19 games in his career with the Eagles and he has completed 194 of 319 passes (60.8%)  for 2,082 yards with 11 TD passes and 14 INTs (73.2 QB Rating).  Kolb has also carried the ball 36 times for 64 yards (1.8 ypc) with 1 TD run so far in his career.

VERDICT:  The Eagles are talking about trading Kevin Kolb but I wouldn’t do that unless they get a king’s ransom for him.  That’s because Michael Vick is a running QB who gets banged up alot, so the Eagles need a good backup.

Green Bay Packers 21, Philadelphia 76ers 16

The magic ended for Michael Vick and the Eagles today as the Packers took it to them!  Michael Vick completed 20 of 36 passes for 292 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 8 times for 33 yards (4.1 ypc) with 1 TD run.  But Vick completed a pass to Packers’ CB Tramon Williams to end this game!  Lesean McCoy pitched in with 46 yards rushing on 12 carries (3.8 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 36 yards (9.0 avg) today.  WRs Jason Avant (7 rec, 93 yards, TD), Jeremy Maclin (3 rec, 73 yards) and Desean Jackson (2 rec, 47 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Eagles today.  The Eagles finished up with 82 yards rushing on 21 carries (3.9 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 36 passes for 270 yards.  In defense of the Eagles’ offensive unit today, David Akers did miss two field goals that certainly changed momentum in this game.

The Eagles got pushed around in the running game today and they didn’t play that well overall.  Rookie LB Jamar Chaney led the way for the Eagles on D today with 10 tackles but he also missed some big ones.  Safety Kurt Coleman (7 tackles) and DE Juqua Parker (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery) also pitched in for the Eagles today.  LB Omar Gaither pitched in with a fumble recovery.  The Packers finished up with 138 yards rushing on 32 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 27 passes for 171 yards.  The Eagles season had ended with a resounding thud!

Green Bay Packers (10-6) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (10-6)

The Packers come into this game with a lot of confidence as they beat the Eagles 27-20 in Philly this year in the season opener.  A Clay Matthews’ hit on Kevin Kolb in this game is what sprung Michael Vick into action and the rest is history.  This will be a challenge for Michael Vick and Co. as the Packers are only giving up 15.0 points per game this year.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Eagles have the ball:  The Eagles should come out running the ball a little more than usual as the Packers are giving up 114.9 yards rushing per game and 4.7 yards per carry this year.  Lesean McCoy could have a big game if the Eagles just feed him the ball.  The Eagles’ have to keep Clay Matthews out of the backfield or he’s going to possibly force Michael Vick into making some big mistakes.  Packers’ CBs Charles Woodson and Tramon Williams will likely be locked up on DeSean Jackson & Jeremy Maclin giving the Packers an edge there.  TE Brent Celek & WR Jason Avant are going to have to step up in his game for the Eagles to win it.

When the Packers have the ball:  The Packers are going to come out throwing the ball against the Eagles tomorrow.  The Eagles will have to get a good pass rush on Aaron Rodgers or he’s going to shred the defense due to the fact that he has four good WRs in Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson and James Jones.  Brandon Jackson & John Kuhn will also likely get a few carries each seeing how the Eagles are allowing 110.4 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry.

PREDICTION:  PACKERS 28, EAGLES 20

Dallas Cowboys 14, Philadelphia Eagles 13

The Eagles played with backups yesterday and they still almost beat the Cowboys.  Kevin Kolb got the start at QB and he didn’t look good.  Kolb completed 18 of 36 passes for 162 yards with 1 TD pass and 3 INTs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 12 yards (4.0 ypc) and he lost a fumble that OLB DeMarcus Ware of the Cowboys returned 17 yards for a TD.  Jerome Harrison had a solid game for the Eagles yesterday with 99 yards rushing on 21 carries and he also caught 5 passes for 17 yards (3.4 avg).  WR Chad Hall (6 rec, 84 yards, TD) and TE Clay Harbor (4 rec, 32 yards) led the way for the Eagles in the passing game yesterday.  The Eagles finished up with 124 yards rushing on 27 carries (4.6 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 36 passes for 120 yards.

LB Omar Gaither (10 tackles) and CB Gerard Lawson (fumble recovery) led the way for the Eagles’ D yesterday.  The Cowboys finished up with 159 yards on 34 carries (4.7 ypc) and they also completed 11 of 27 passes for 113 yards.  The Eagles finish the season as the NFC East Champs with a 10-6 record and they will host the Packers in the first round of the playoffs.
