The Philadelphia Eagles have a stake in the recent Redskins’ trade for Jammal Brown

The Philadelphia Eagles will get a 3rd round pick from the Redskins if they win 9 or more games OR Donovan McNabb makes the Pro Bowl with the Saints getting a 4th round pick.  If neither of those things happen for the Redskins in 2010 the Eagles will get a 4th round pick from the Skins with the Saints getting a 3rd rounder.

The Philadelphia Eagles are going young at RB in 2010

The Brian Westbrook/Donovan McNabb era in Philly is over.  Now starts the Kevin Kolb/Lesean McCoy era.  The 21-year old McCoy played in 16 games (4 starts) as a rookie last season in which he carried the ball 155 times for 637 yards (4.1 ypc) with 4 TD runs and he also caught 40 passes for 308 yards (7.7 avg).  McCoy has everything that Coach Andy Reid looks for in a running back as he is a solid runner and receiver.

27-year old Mike Bell will be the bully when the Eagles need a tough yard.  He played in 13 games (3 starts) for the Saints last season in which he carried the ball 172 times for 654 yards (3.8 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  Bell also caught 4 passes for 12 yards (3.0 avg) last year for the Saints.  Bell has now played in 37 games (6 starts) in his four years in the NFL and he has carried the ball 348 times for 1,376 yards (4.0 ypc) with 14 TD runs.  He has also caught 26 passes for 191 yards (7.3 avg).  Bell might not appear to be a perfect fit in the Eagles’ offense because he’s not a great receiver but he will provide some muscle when they need it.

Rookie Charles Scott a 6th round pick out of LSU will battle Eldra Buckley for the #3 RB job in 2010.  Buckley might have an edge because he played in all 16 games (0 starts) for the Eagles last year.  Buckley carried the ball 15 times for 44 yards (2.9 ypc) with 1 TD run but he didn’t catch any passes last year.

The Philadelphia Eagles are Kevin Kolb’s team now

The Eagles really took a chance in trading Donovan McNabb to the division rival Washington Redskins.  They have essentially handed the keys to the car to Kevin Kolb who has started exactly 2 games in his NFL career.  Kolb has been careless to say the least with the football so far in his NFL career.  He certainly has the arm to succeed and he has a lot of weapons at his disposal so he will have a lot of pressure to produce right away.  The 25-year old Kolb played in 5 games for the Eagles last season and he completed 62 of 96 passes (64.6%) for 741 yards with 4 TD passes and 3 INTs (88.9 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 5 times for -1 yard (-0.2 ypc) last year.  Kolb has now played in 12 games in his career with the Eagles and he has completed 79 of 130 passes (60.8%) for 885 yards with 4 TD passes and 7 INTs (68.9 QB Rating).  Kolb has also carried the ball 21 times for -1 yard (0.0 ypc) in his career.  Kolb is 1-1 (50%) as a starting QB for the Eagles.

29-year old Michael Vick will be the Eagles’ safety net in case Kolb isn’t quite ready for prime time.  Vick played in 12 games for the Eagles last year and he completed 6 of 13 passes (46.2%) for 86 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs (93.7 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 24 times for 95 yards (4.0 ypc) with 2 TD runs last season.  Vick has now played in 86 games in his NFL career and he has completed 936 of 1,743 (53.7%) for 11,591 yards with 72 TD passes and 52 INTs (75.9 QB Rating).  Vick has also carried the ball 553 times for 3,954 yards (7.2 ypc) with 23 TD runs in his career.  Vick has compiled a 38-28-1 (57.6%) record as a starting QB in the regular season.  The Eagles would likely have to go much more conservative if Vick was forced into the starting lineup.

22-year old Mike Kafka was picked in the 4th round out of Northwestern this past April.  He will likely be just holding a clipboard in 2010 for the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles lose safety Marlin Jackson

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Eagles News, Injury Reports, General by admin on Thursday 3 June 2010 at 7:28 am

The Eagles have lost safety Marlin Jackson to a ruptured right Achilles tendon in practice.  He will miss the whole 2010 season for the Eagles.  In the Eagles’ initial depth chart Jackson was #2 at free safety behind rookie 2nd round pick Nate Allen.  This injury will hurt the Eagles because it will pretty much force them to start Allen with no fall back option.  Look for the Eagles to be scouring the rest of the free agent market for a veteran safety to bring in to back up Allen.
