The Philadelphia Eagles release Kevin Curtis

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 20 March 2010 at 4:52 pm

The Eagles have released 31-year old WR Kevin Curtis.  Curtis played in 3 games for the Eagles last season in which he caught 6 passes for 77 yards (12.8 avg).  He played in 28 games in his career for the Eagles in which he 116 passes for 1,577 yards (13.6 avg) with 8 TD grabs.  The Eagles have a lot of talented receivers on the roster so they won’t miss Curtis too much.

The Philadelphia Eagles release DE Darren Howard

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 20 March 2010 at 4:50 pm

The Eagles have released 33-year old DE Darren Howard.  Howard played in all 16 games for the Eagles last season in which he made 24 tackles, defensed 3 passes, had 6.5 sacks and he forced 2 fumbles.  He played in 64 games in his four years with the Eagles and he made 93 tackles, defensed 12 passes, had 22.5 sacks, he forced 5 fumbles and he had 1 interception.  Howard was a decent player for the Eagles but they like Darryl Tapp better than him.

The Titans sign Jason Babin to a offer sheet

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page by admin on Thursday 18 March 2010 at 9:50 am

The Titans have signed 29-year old DE Jason Babin to a 1-year, $1 million dollar offer sheet.  He played in 12 games for the Eagles last season in which he made 16 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and he had 2.5 sacks.  With the addition of Darryl Tapp to the D-Line earlier this week I just don’t think they will match Babin’s offer from the Titans.

UPDATE:  The Eagles declined to match Jason Babin’s offer sheet from the Titans ending his time in Philly.

The Philadelphia Eagles release Shawn Andrews

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 17 March 2010 at 2:46 pm

The Eagles have released 27-year old offensive lineman Shawn Andrews.  Andrews is a big man at 6’4″, 335 pounds but he didn’t play last season.  He played in 50 games (all starts) with the Eagles in his career with them.  It’s kind of a shock to see the Eagles to cut such a talented lineman but his off-field issues made this likely a good move for them.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign Mike Bell to a offer sheet

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page by admin on Wednesday 17 March 2010 at 2:42 pm

The Eagles have signed 26-year old RB Mike Bell to a 1-year, $1.7 million dollar offer sheet.  The Saints will have seven days to decide whether to match it or not.  Bell played in 13 games for the Saints last season in which he carried the ball 172 times for 654 yards (3.8 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He also caught 4 passes for 12 yards (3.0 avg) last season.  Bell has now played in 37 games in his NFL career in which he has carried the ball 348 times for 1,376 yards (4.0 ypc) with 14 TD runs and he has also caught 26 passes for 191 yards (7.3 avg).  I like what the Eagles are trying to do here as Bell would give them a solid inside runner to team with Lesean McCoy at tailback in 2010.

UPDATE:  The Saints failed to match the offer the Eagles made to Mike Bell.  This was a good move for the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles acquire Darryl Tapp from the Seahawks

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Wednesday 17 March 2010 at 2:38 pm

The Eagles have signed 25-year old DT Darryl Tapp from the Seahawks for 28-year old DE/OLB Chris Clemons and a 4th round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.  Tapp played in all 16 games for the Seahawks last season in which he made 49 tackles, defensed 3 passes and he had 2.5 sacks.  Tapp has now played in 64 games in his NFL career in which he has made 186 tackles, defensed 12 passes, he has 18 sacks, forced 8 fumbles and he has 2 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).

Clemons played in all 16 games for the Eagles last season and he made 11 tackles, defensed 1 pass and he had 3 sacks.  I really like this trade for the Eagles as Tapp should really help them in 2010.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign Hank Baskett

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by admin on Friday 12 March 2010 at 11:56 am

The Eagles have brought back 27-year old WR Hank Baskett on a 1-year deal.  Baskett played in 12 games for the Colts & Eagles last season in which he caught 5 passes for 34 yards (6.8 avg).  He has now played in 59 games in his NFL career in which he has caught 76 passes for 1,080 yards (14.2 avg) with 6 TD grabs.  Baskett will have a tough time making the Eagles this season as they are pretty loaded at WR.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign Chad Hall

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by admin on Thursday 11 March 2010 at 9:22 pm

The Eagles have signed WR/KR Chad Hall to a three year deal.  Hall spent the last two years serving the Air Force as a second lieutenant.  Hall will have a good chance to win the job as the kickoff returner for the Eagles in 2010.  It’s always nice to see a player like Hall get a chance after serving his country.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign CB/S Marlin Jackson

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by admin on Wednesday 10 March 2010 at 5:10 pm

The Eagles have signed 26-year old CB/S Marlin Jackson to a 2-year deal.  Jackson played in 4 games for the Colts last season in which he made 10 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, he defensed 1 pass and he had 1 interception.  Jackson has now played in 56 games in his NFL career and he has made 284 tackles, has defensed 15 passes, has 1/2 a sack, forced 2 fumbles and he has 4 interceptions.  This was a good move for the Eagles as Jackson is a very physical defensive back.

The Philadelphia Eagles trade Reggie Brown to the Buccaneers

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page,Trades by admin on Tuesday 9 March 2010 at 12:25 am

The Eagles have traded 29-year old WR Reggie Brown to the Buccaneers for a 6th round pick in 2011.  Brown played in 14 games for the Eagles last season and he caught 9 passes for 155 yards (17.2 avg).  He played in 72 games in his five years with the Eagles and he caught 177 passes for 2,574 yards (14.5 avg) with 17 TD grabs.  Brown also carried the ball 11 times for 68 yards (6.2 ypc) with 1 TD run for the Eagles.  A lot of the younger receivers on the Eagles have passed right by Brown on the depth chart so this was a smart trade probably for both teams.
