Philadelphia Eagles at San Diego Chargers preview

The Philadelphia Eagles (5-3) are heading to the west coast to take on the San Diego Chargers (5-3) Sunday.  The Chargers have been playing very well lately, so this should be a very close game for the Eagles.  Donovan McNabb needs to make sure he doesn’t throw any interceptions in this one, as any turnover will most likely turn into points for the other team.  McNabb threw two last game against the Cowboys, which was the main reason they lost.  If McNabb plays like he did last week than the Eagles will be in trouble.  The running game will get a boost with Brian Westrbook coming back, but LeSean McCoy may still get the bulk of the carries.

Phillip Rivers and the Chargers offense have not had the luxury of a great running game, like they have had in recent seasons.  That doesn’t mean the Eagles can forget about LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles, who are both dangerous in both the running game and the passing game.  Still, the passing game is where the Chargers are successful, so they need to limit the big plays.  They average 265 passing yards per game, so the secondary better be ready to be challenged early and often.  I’m expecting a very close game, but with the Chargers having the home-field and coming off three straight wins, I’m going with them in this one.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  Philadelphia Eagles 28, San Diego Chargers 31

Philadelphia Eagles 16, Dallas Cowboys 20

Donovan McNabb and the Phildelphia Eagles were not on top of their game Sunday and fell to the Dallas Cowboys.  McNabb threw two interceptions, the first multi-interception game of the season for him.  The Eagles were without their star running back Brian Westbrook for the second straight game due to a concussion, but LeSean McCoy filled in nicely for Westbrook.  McCoy rushed for 54 yards on 13 carries and added five catches for 61 yards.  It wasn’t enough though, and without McNabb off his game the Cowboys were able to take advantage.

Tony Romo and the Cowboys offense were able to get a first quarter touchdown when Tashard Choice ran it in from the two yard line.  The Eagles defense did a good job keeping them out the end zone for the next 2 1/2 quarters, but Romo was able to find the dangerous Miles Austin for a 49-yard touchdown.  It was Austin’s only catch of the game and proved to be a costly one.  The touchdown put the Cowboys up 20-13 with about eight minutes to play, but the Eagles could only answer with a field goal.  They were not able to get any more points on the board after that and fell 20-16.  This game was very even and McNabb’s two interceptions ended up being very costly, as ball control ended up being very important in this one.  The Cowboys won the turnover battle and it was one of the main reasons the Eagles lost this one.

The Philadelphia Eagles are hosting the Dallas Cowboys and it should be a very exciting game.  Donovan McNabb and company have been playing well and are coming off a great game in which they crushed the Giants.  If McNabb and the offense can put some points on the board like they did last week then they will be in good shape.  The Cowboys have an electric offense though, so the Eagles may need to score like last week if they want to win.

The Eagles defense needs to try and stop the Tony Romo-Miles Austin connection.  Austin has been the surprise of the year as the wide receiver has been running all over the field catches passes and burning defenses.  If the Eagles let Austin have another big game they will probably lose.  Romo has been playing great the last few games too, as he has eight touchdowns and zero interceptions in his last three games.  I’m not sure the Eagles offense will be able to keep up with the Cowboys’, so I’m picking the Cowboys in this one.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION:  Dallas Cowboys 35, Philadelphia Eagles 31

Philadelphia Eagles 40, New York Giants 17

The Philadelphia Eagles made a statement in this game and crushed the New York Giants.  The Eagles offense was able to make a bunch of huge plays, and it all started in the first quarter when Leanard Weaver darted 41 yards for a touchdown.  The Eagles built a big 17-0 lead early in the half and went into halftime up 31-7.  McNabb had a great game, throwing for 240 yards and three touchdowns on 17/23 attempts.  McNabb’s favorite target in this game was DeSean Jackson, who caught 3 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown.  The touchdown came on a 54-yard strike from McNabb in the second quarter.  Brian Westbrook sat out with a concussion, but LeSean McCoy and Leonard Weaver did a great job filling in for him.  They combined for 157 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.

The Eagles defense did a very good job disrupting Eli Manning and the Giants passing game.  They picked off Manning twice, but he did find the endzone once.  He only completed about 50% of his passes though (20/39) and did not look very confident.  They did an okay job slowing their run game down, as Brandon Jacobs got 86 yards on 20 carries but did not score.  The special teams were able to recover a fumble too, so the Eagles got contributions from the whole team.  This was a big win for the Eagles as they completely outplayed the Giants in this one.
