The Eagles have released 27-year old safety Rashad Baker.  Baker played in 10 games for the Raiders last season and he made 24 tackles, defensed 4 passes and he had 3 interceptions.  Baker was quickly picked up by his old team but the Eagles are too talented to keep a player like him so his release is a good sign.

The Philadelphia Eagles were getting thumped 21-6 at the half but they fought till the end making this game very competitive.  Donovan McNabb completed 11 of 18 passes for 103 yards.  A.J. Feeley was the star of the game for the Eagles as he completed 18 of 24 passes for 211 yards with a TD pass.  The running game was led by rookie Lesean McCoy who carried the ball 10 times for 55 yards (5.5 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 12 yards.  Eldra Buckley also had a solid game for the Eagles rushing for 23 yards on 8 carries (2.9 ypc) with a TD run.  He also added 56 yards receiving on 6 catches (9.3 avg) with a TD grab.  The Eagles looked sharp overall on offense in this game rolling up 420 total yards.

The defense was pretty solid in this game for the Eagles as they held the Patriots to 257 total yards of offense.  The run defense was especially sharp allowing only 3.3 yards per carry.  DE/OLB Jason Babin had a solid game for the Eagles with 4 tackles and a sack. Safety Rashad Baker also pitched in with 4 tackles.

The first half of this game showed the Eagles still have a lot to work on.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign Michael Vick

The Eagles have signed 29-year old QB Michael Vick to a 1-year, $1.6 million dollar contract with a option worth $5.2 million bucks for the 2010 season.  Vick last played in the NFL in 2006 with the Falcons when he made NFL history becoming the first QB to ever rush for over 1,000 yards in a season (1,039 yards, 8.4 ypc).  He has played six seasons in his NFL career covering 74 games in which he completed 930 of 1,730 passes (53.8%) for 11,505 yards with 71 TD passes and 52 interceptions (75.7 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 529 times for 3,859 yards (7.3 ypc) with 21 TD runs.  Kevin Kolb was once thought of to be Donovan McNabb’s eventual successor but he’s the big loser with the addition of Michael Vick as he will likely lose his roster spot.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign DT Willie Williams

The Eagles have signed 24-year old DT Willie Williams.  Williams has nice size at 6′4″, 305 pounds but he doesn’t have any gameday experience.  He spent all of his rookie season on the Rams’ practice squad.  It will be interesting to see if Williams has anything to offer based on the fact that the Rams didn’t get him on the field last season despite being awful.

The Eagles have signed 28-year old inside linebacker Matt Wilhelm.  Wilhelm played in all 16 games for the Chargers last season and he made 51 tackles, defensed 3 passes and he had 1 interception.  He has now played in 71 games in his NFL career and he has made 220 tackles, defensed 12 passes, has 2 sacks, forced 1 fumble and he has picked off 6 passes.  Wilhelm will likely battle Omar Gaither for Stewart Bradley’s old starting job in training camp and the pre-season.
