The Philadelphia Eagles sign Stacy Andrews

The Eagles have signed 27-year old offensive tackle Stacy Andrews.  Andrews is a monster at 6′7″, 342 pounds and the Eagles will give him a chance to replace John Runyan at tackle.  He played in 15 games (all starts) for the Bengals last season.  In his five year NFL career Andrews has played in 62 games (32 of which he started).  This was a good signing for the Eagles as they needed some new blood on the offensive line.

The Philadelphia Eagles trade Lito Sheppard to the Jets

The Eagles have traded 27-year old cornerback Lito Sheppard to the Jets for a 5th round pick in 2009 and a conditional 2010 draft pick (2nd, 3rd or 4th rounder depending on Sheppard’s play in 2009).  Sheppard played in all 16 games for the Eagles last season and he made 21 tackles, defensed 4 passes, forced 1 fumble and he intercepted 1 pass.  He finished his 7-year career with the Eagles having played in 93 games in which he made 253 tackles, defensed 69 passes, had 2 sacks, forced 3 fumbles and he intercepted 18 passes (3 he returned for TDs).  The Eagles got good value for Sheppard as he was likely going to be the nickel back again in 2009 if he stayed in Philly.

The Philadelphia Eagles let Brian Dawkins walk

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Eagles News, General by admin on Friday 27 February 2009 at 10:46 pm

35-year old Brian Dawkins has left the Eagles after 13 seasons signing a contract with the Denver Broncos.  Dawkins played in all 16 games for the Eagles last season and he made 75 tackles, defensed 6 passes, sacked the opposing QB 3 times, he forced 6 fumbles and intercepted 1 pass.  Dawkins finishes his career in Philly having played in 183 games in which he made 898 tackles, defensed 153 passes, had 21 sacks, forced 33 fumbles and he intercepted 34 passes (2 of which he returned for TDs).  Dawkins will go down as one of the best defensive players in Eagles’ history and he will be very hard to replace.
