The Eagles have acquired running back Lorenzo Booker from the Miami Dolphins for a 4th round pick in this year’s draft.  Booker played in 7 games (1 start) for the Dolphins in his rookie season and he carried the ball 28 times for 125 yards (4.5 ypc).  Booker also caught 28 passes for 237 yards (8.5 avg).  The Eagles will look for Booker to help out on passing downs this season as he will likely be the #3 running back on their depth chart in 2008.

The Philadelphia Eagles drafted last April with an eye on the future

The Philadelphia Eagles weren’t expecting a lot from their rookies last season and that was a good thing.  2nd round pick (QB) Kevin Kolb was the first choice the Eagles made last season.  He only played in 1 game (0 starts) last season for the Eagles and he carried the ball 3 times for -2 yards (-0.7 ypc).  Kolb will battle A.J. Feeley this season for the right to be the #2 QB.  DE Victor Abiamiri was the other 2nd round pick of the Eagles last season.  He played in 6 games (1 start) for the Eagles last season and he made 3 whole tackles.  OLB Stewart Bradley was a solid backup and special teams player as a rookie last year.  Bradley played in 16 games (1 start) for the Eagles last season and he made 18 tackles, had 1 sack, defensed 1 pass and had 1 interception.  Bradley could be in the starting lineup as early as this season with the Eagles.  RB Tony Hunt was drafted in the third round to give Brian Westbrook a little breather at times but he did not play well at all.  Hunt played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Eagles last season and he carried the ball 10 times for 16 yards (1.6 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Free safety C.J. Gaddis was cut before ever taking the field in a real game for the Eagles.  He finished up his rookie season on the practice squad of the Falcons.  TE Brent Celek was a find for the Eagles in the 5th round.  Celek played in 16 games (4 starts) for the Eagles last season and he caught 16 passes for 178 yards (11.1 avg) with 1 TD grab.  He could work his way into a starting role for the Eagles at some point if L.J. Smith keeps having injury problems.  CB Rashad Barksdale didn’t make the Eagles roster.  He was cut and hooked on with the Chiefs where he played in 6 games (0 starts) and finished with 8 tackles.  Fullback Nate Ilaoa was the 7th round pick of the Eagles and he didn’t play a down last season.

The Eagles have signed FB/TE Kris Wilson to a 3-year contract.  Wilson carried the football 3 times for 7 yards (2.3 ypc) last season for the Chiefs and he also caught 24 passes for 180 yards (7.5 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Wilson has now played in 49 games in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 4 times for 13 yards (3.3 ypc).  He also caught 42 passes for 345 yards (8.2 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  This was another good signing for the Eagles as it gives them another huge target in the passing game as Wilson stands 6′2″, 251 pounds.

The Eagles have signed linebacker Rocky Boiman to a 1-year contract.  Boiman played in all 16 games for the Colts last season and he made 54 tackles, defensed 4 passes and intercepted 2 passes.  Boiman has now played in 86 games in his NFL career and he has made 182 tackles, defensed 9 passes, has 1.5 sacks, forced 2 fumbles and he has intercepted 5 passes one of which he returned for a TD.  This was another good signing for the Eagles who continue to reload on defense.
