The Philadelphia Eagles fans need to take it easy on Donovan McNabb

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by admin on Thursday 29 November 2007 at 3:38 pm

Donovan McNabb has never been 100% this season and he still has put up solid stats.  McNabb has completed 195 of 326 passes (59.8%) for 2,329 yards with 13 TD passes and 6 interceptions (87.3 QB Rating) so far this season.  McNabb’s mobility has been affected by his knee not being near 100% this season.  Still, he has carried the ball 30 times for 135 yards (4.5 ypc) but he also has been sacked 30 times this season.  Eagles fans need to realize that McNabb gives them the best chance to win despite A.J. Feeley’s solid game against the Patriots.  Feeley failed as a starter in Miami and he appears to be a much better backup than starter.  Feeley has completed 40 of 61 passes this season (65.6%) for 461 yards with 4 TD passes and 4 interceptions (82.8 QB Rating).  Feeley does throw a lot of interceptions so the Eagles fans better be careful in calling for Feeley to replace McNabb….because it would be a big, big mistake.

The Eagles left everything on the field Sunday Night as they almost beat the Patriots in Foxboro.  A.J. Feeley had a good game as he completed 27 of 42 passes for 345 yards with 3 TD passes and 3 INTs.  One of his INTs was returned for a TD by Patriots corner Asante Samuel.  Brian Westbrook had an off game as he carried the ball 17 times for 52 yards (3.1 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 7 passes for 40 yards (5.7 avg).  The Eagles pulled WR Greg Lewis out of mothballs and he caught 4 passes for 88 yards (22.0 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Kevin Curtis (5 rec, 71 yards) and Reggie Brown (5 rec, 45 yards, TD) both pitched in for the Eagles.  The Eagles finished up with 55 yards rushing on 19 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 27 of 42 passes for 336 yards.

Linebacker Omar Gaither (12 tackles) and DB Joselio Hanson (9 tackles) led the way for the Eagles defense.  The Patriots finished up with 48 yards on 16 carries (3.0 ypc) and they also completed 34 of 54 passes for 362 yards.

The Eagles played a solid game on offense after Donovan McNabb left due to injury and the defense was outstanding.  Donovan McNabb was awful before he was injured as he completed 3 of 11 passes for 34 yards with 2 interceptions.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 28 yards (14.0 ypc).  A.J. Feeley replaced McNabb after he was injured and he completed 13 of 19 passes for 116 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  Brian Westbrook had his best game of the season running the ball as he carried it 32 times for 148 yards (4.6 ypc) and he only caught 1 pass for 0 yards.  Correll Buckhalter pitched in with 3 carries for 19 yards (6.3 ypc) with a TD run.  Kevin Curtis (5 rec, 69 yards) and L.J. Smith (4 rec, 44 yards) both had solid games for the Eagles.  The Eagles carried the football 39 times for 202 yards (5.2 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 30 passes for 150 yards.

The Eagles defense was incredible as they swarmed to the ball in a team effort.  The Eagles held the Dolphins to 77 yards rushing on 25 carries (3.2 ypc) and they also completed 9 of 22 passes for 109 yards.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Miami Dolphins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 17 November 2007 at 2:36 am

These two teams go into Sunday’s game with different agendas.  The Dolphins just want to win a game while the Eagles are looking to win their second game in a row for the first time this season.  The Dolphins are going to throw rookie QB John Beck into the fire and start him in Philly.  With that in mind, the Dolphins will likely try to keep the ball on the ground with Jesse Chatman who is averaging 5.1 ypc this season.  It’s too bad that the Dolphins WR corps has stunk it up this season because the Eagles can be passed on as they allow 222.1 yards per game thru the air.

The Dolphins will be in big trouble this weekend because they don’t have a linebacker that can stop Brian Westbrook in both the running and passing game.  Look for Donovan McNabb to play well again this week after his 4-TD passing game last weekend against the Redskins.  The Dolphins secondary pales in comparison to what the Redskins had.

PREDICTION:  This is a tough place for a rookie QB to make his first start.  PREDICTION:  EAGLES 28, DOLPHINS 10

The Eagles scored the last two TDs of this game to pull out a big win.  Donovan McNabb had a great game as he completed 20 of 28 passes for 251 yards with 4 TD passes and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 5 times for 37 yards (7.4 ypc).  Brian Westbrook was outstanding as he carried the ball 20 times for 100 yards (5.0 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 5 passes for 83 yards (16.6 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  L.J. Smith (4 rec, 49 yards, TD) and Reggie Brown (3 rec, 55 yards, TD) both also had good games.  The Eagles finished up with 139 yards rushing on 28 carries (5.0 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 28 passes for 240 yards.

The defense was led by Takeo Spikes who had 12 tackles.  DE Trent Cole also had another good game with 6 tackles and a sack.  The Redskins finished up with 158 yards rushing on 36 carries (4.4 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 34 passes for 203 yards.

Dallas Cowboys 38, Philadelphia Eagles 17

This game was not pretty as the offense kept stubbing their toes and the defense couldn’t stop T.O. and his buddies.  Donovon McNabb piled up some numbers but he wasn’t throwing the ball down the field and that wound up hurting the Eagles in this game.  McNabb completed 27 of 46 passes for 264 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 interceptions.  Brian Westbrook was very active as he carried the ball 16 times for 65 yards (4.1 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 14 passes for 90 yards (6.4 avg).  Reggie Brown made 2 grabs for 55 yards (27.5 avg).  Kevin Curtis pitched in with 5 grabs for 51 yards (10.2 avg).  Hank Baskett got a garbage TD late in the 4th quarter and he finished with 3 catches for 28 yards (9.3 avg) with a TD grab.  The Eagles finished up with 66 yards rushing on 19 carries (3.5 ypc) and they also completed 27 of 46 passes for 250 yards.

Defensive tackle Mike Patterson led a poor defensive effort from the Eagles with 9 tackles.  The Cowboys finished up with 110 yards rushing on 32 carries (3.4 ypc) and they completed 20 of 25 passes for 324 yards.

Philadelphia Eagles 23, Minnesota Vikings 16

The Eagles won this game because of the fine play of QB Donovan McNabb.  McNabb completed 23 of 36 passes for 333 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 13 yards (4.3 ypc).  Brian Westbrook found little running room as he carried the ball 21 times for 46 yards (2.2 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 4 passes for 46 yards (11.5 avg) with a TD.  Reggie Brown had his best game of the season with 8 catches for 105 yards (13.1 avg).  Kevin Curtis also pitched in with 3 catches for 76 yards (25.3 avg).  The Eagles finished with 62 yards rushing on 26 carries (2.4 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 36 passes for 323 yards.

DE Trent Cole led the way on defense with 8 tackles and 2 sacks.  The Vikings finished up with 105 yards rushing on 29 carries (3.6 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 26 passes for 151 yards.

Chicago Bears 19, Philadelphia Eagles 16

The Eagles should have won this game but they choked in the 4th quarter.  Donovan McNabb had a decent game as he completed 21 of 34 passes for 226 yards with 1 TD and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 18 yards.  Brian Westbrook was busy again in this game as he carried the ball 18 times for 79 yards (4.4 ypc) and he also caught 6 passes for 40 yards (6.7 avg).  Kevin Curtis (5 rec, 62 yards) and Reggie Brown (3 rec, 44 yards) both had trouble with some drops and that hurt the Eagles in this game.  The Eagles finished up with 123 yards rushing on 25 carries (4.9 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 34 passes for 211 yards.

DE Trent Cole led the way on the defense with 7 tackles and a sack.  The Bears finished up with 72 yards rushing on 23 carries (3.1 ypc) and they also completed 27 of 41 passes for 312 yards.
