Green Bay Packers 16, Philadelphia Eagles 13

The Eagles probably should have won this football game.  The special teams of the Eagles handed the Packers 10 points including the game winning field goal and that’s a shame because the defense was awesome.  DT Mike Patterson led the Eagles with 10 tackles and a sack.  CB Sheldon Brown was also solid with 7 tackles and a interception.  DE Trent Cole was also outstanding with 5 tackles and 1.5 sacks.  The Eagles stuffed the Packers running game holding them to 46 yards on 17 carries (2.7 ypc).  The Packers also completed 23 of 42 passes for 169 yards.

Donovan McNabb looked rusty as he completed 15 of 33 passes for 184 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  RB Brian Westbrook was busy with 20 carries for 85 yards (4.3 ypc) and he also caught 6 passes for 46 yards (7.7 avg).  2nd year WR Jason Avant led Eagles receivers with 54 yards on 3 catches (18.0 avg) with a TD.  Kevin Curtis also had a decent game with 2 catches for 53 yards (26.5 avg).  The Eagles finished with 103 yards rushing on 29 carries (3.6 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 33 passes for 180 yards.

The over/under for the Philadelphia Eagles is 9.5 wins for 2007

If I could look in my crystal ball and see that Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook would both start in every game this season I would take the over.  But the Eagles defense will make me pick the under for the Eagles this season.  The front seven of the Eagles defense will be pushed around every week which will put a ton of pressure on the offense.  Take the under.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Green Bay Packers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Friday 7 September 2007 at 4:57 pm

The Eagles gameplan against the Packers will be to run the football and pass the ball short.  They will want McNabb to stay in the pocket in an attempt to keep him healthy but that will depend on his tackles (LT William Thomas, RT Jon Runyan) who must keep Packers DEs (LE Aaron Kampman and RE Cullen Jenkins) out of his face.  That will be easier said than done.  The Eagles will also run the football a lot against the Packers defense with Brian Westbrook, Correll Buckhalter and Tony Hunt.  The key matchup could be when Westbrook tries to catch balls out of the backfield putting pressure on the OLBs of the Packers.  Look for A.J. Hawk to be up to the challenge.  WRs Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown should have their hands full trying to find openings against CBs Al Harris and Charles Woodson.  The best matchup in the passing game for the Eagles will likely be L.J. Smith against SS Nick Collins and Atari Bigby.

Look for the Packers to attempt to run the football early in the game to take advantage of the Eagles weakness between the tackles.  RBs Brandon Jackson and Vernand Morency have been gimpy in the pre-season but when they watch film of the Eagles they will just likely take some painkillers and get on the field.  MLB Omar Gaither and OLB Takeo Spikes must step up and stop that Packers running game.  The Packers will probably run to the left where there best two O-Linemen play.  LG Daryn Colledge and LT Chad Clifton should get a good push against the Eagles front.  The Packers O-Line must control DEs Jevon Kearse and Trent Cole to give Brett Favre the chance to go down the field with the football.  The Packers need their receivers to step up in this game.  With Donald Driver a little gimpy the Packers need Greg Jennings and rookie James Jones to step up.  The veteran secondary of the Eagles will cause the Packers some trouble.  CBs Lito Sheppard an Sheldon Brown are solid and safeties Sean Considine and Brian Dawkins are outstanding football players.

It will be interesting to see if Packers K Mason Crosby has the jitters in his debut.  Eagles K David Akers is one of the most underrated at his position as he is clutch.

PREDICTION:  Look for the Eagles to beat the Packers as they have owned them at Lambeau Field lately and the Packers have not played well at home in quite a while.

The Philadelphia Eagles place DT Ian Scott on IR and sign DE Kimo Von Oelhoffen

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Wednesday 5 September 2007 at 5:35 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles have lost DT Ian Scott for the season before he even played a down with a knee injury.  The Eagles have signed DE Kimo Von Oelhoffen to a 1-year contract to replace Scott on the D-Line.  Von Oelhoffen played in all 16 games for the Jets last season and he made 28 tackles, defensed 1 pass and had a sack.  He has played in 189 games in his career and he has made 354 tackles, has 26.5 sacks, defensed 14 passes and forced 4 fumbles.

The Philadelphia Eagles release Nate Ilaoa

Blogged under Big Eagles News,Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Tuesday 4 September 2007 at 8:39 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles have released running back Nate Ilaoa after he had a rough pre-season.  Ilaoa carried the football 23 times for 57 yards (2.5 ypc) and he also caught 6 passes for 55 yards (9.2 avg).  The Eagles just had too many RBs ahead of Ilaoa on the depth chart to justify giving him a roster spot at this time.
