The Philadelphia Eagles are working RB Brian Westbrook too hard this season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General by dawgpounded on Friday 21 September 2007 at 12:40 pm

The Eagles have to let Correll Buckhalter and rookie Tony Hunt play more soon or Brian Westbrook isn’t going to make it all season.  Westbrook has been outstanding this season as he has carried the football 37 times for 181 yards (4.9 ypc) and he has also caught 14 passes for 112 yards (8.0 avg).  Westbrook’s 293 total yards of offense has accounted for 47% of the Eagles total yards.  His knee is already starting to bother him so the Eagles need to lessen his load because the offense will definately be hurt if he misses any time this season.

With All Due Respect Donovan, Has-Been Quarterbacks Get Criticized!

I got a good laugh when I saw that Donovan McNabb criticized the media for the extra criticism he claims is given to black quarterbacks.  I guarantee you that Redskins fans don’t feel that way after their QB, who happens to be black, led the Redskins to victory over your team this past Monday night.  They probably also hold Doug Williams, a black QB, in high regard, as he stepped in and led the Redskins to a Super Bowl win some years back.

The truth hurts Donovan, but you have played like a washed-up has-been.  Maybe if you could still complete a pass for more than ten yards you wouldn’t be getting so much criticism.  Why don’t you act like a man for once and admit that you have let your team down and that is why you are getting criticized!  You should know that you are an ambassador for black quarterbacks in high school and college that dream of being in the NFL someday, and being a whiny little girl and blaming your shortcomings on others sets a bad example.  I hope Eagles fans run you out of town soon because you’re starting to reflect as poorly on Andy Reid as his sons.

Washington Redskins 20, Philadelphia Eagles 12

The Redskins pushed the Eagles around last night as they pretty much out hit them all night long.  QB Donovan McNabb completed 28 of 46 passes for 240 yards with 0 TDs and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 15 yards (7.5 ypc).  RB Brian Westbrook was very active last night as he carried the ball 17 times for 96 yards (5.6 ypc) and he also caught 8 passes for 66 yards (8.3 avg).  WR Jason Avant had another pretty good week with 5 catches for 55 yards (11.0 avg).  Kevin Curtis caught 4 passes for 28 yards (7.0 avg) but he dropped a pass after getting drilled by Redskins safety LaRon Landry to end the football game.  The Eagles rushed for 114 yards on 20 carries (5.7 ypc) and they completed 28 of 46 passes for 226 yards.

Eagles’ MLB Omar Gaither was all over the football field as he had 9 tackles.  But the rest of the Philly defense had their issues.  The Redskins rushed for 130 yards on 33 carries (3.9 ypc) and they completed 16 of 29 passes for 207 yards.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Redskins

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General by dawgpounded on Friday 14 September 2007 at 10:57 am
It will be very interesting to watch this football game as both teams flashed good defense in the first game of the season.  The Redskins prevailed 16-13 in OT against the Dolphins while the Eagles handed the Packers a 16-13 win.  The Eagles swept the series with the Redskins last season by outscoring them 48-22!

The Redskins will likely attack the Eagles run defense with Clinton Portis (98 yards), LaDell Betts (59 yards) and QB Jason Campbell (29 yards) despite the fact that the Packers only rushed for 46 yards (2.7 ypc) against the Eagles last week.  The Eagles also have some CB problems so the Redskins will likely get Santana Moss (3 rec, 28 yards) more involved in the downfield passing attack.  WR Antwaan Randle El (5 rec, 162 yards) will also be someone that Jason Campbell is looking for so the Eagles must be ready for him.  The Eagles will try to pressure Campbell into mistakes as they love to blitz and they got to Brett Favre 4 times last week.

The Eagles will likely go with the short passing game that has made Donovan McNabb a star NFL QB.  Look for dumps to Brian Westbrook out of the backfield and short shots to TE L.J. Smith.  The Eagles will definately test safeites LaROn Landry and Sean Taylor of the Redskins but that could be a mistake as they are definately playmakers.  The better way to attack the Redskins defense would be to go after their CBs with Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis as the Eagles have mis-matches there.  Another key battle that the Eagles need to win if they want to move the ball against the Redskins defense is they need Brian Westbrook (131 total yards) to have a good game against the Skins linebackers.

PREDICTION:  Both of these teams’ games were decided by a field goal last week and it will again this week as I think either team can win this game.

The Philadelphia Eagles lose Lito Sheppard

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injury Reports, General by dawgpounded on Monday 10 September 2007 at 3:55 pm

The Eagles have lost CB Lito Sheppard for at least this week’s game with the Washington Redskins.  Sheppard only made 2 tackles against the Packers before he was injured.  Will James will be promoted to the starting lineup and he played o.k. against the Packers with 5 tackles.
