3. (87) Stewart Bradley, OLB

The Eagles felt the need to upgrade at outside linebacker so they were happy to see Stewart Bradley fall to them in the 3rd round.  At 6’3″, 256 pounds Bradley has nice size and he runs a 4.7 40 which is excellent for a man his size.  Bradley has problems covering tight ends but he’s a good run defender.  In 43 games (29 starts) at Nebraska, Bradley has made 175 tackles, 25 tackles for a loss, had 4 sacks, broke up 3 passes and had 1 interception.  Bradley was a solid pick for the Eagles as he will eventually be a starter for them.  And he also should help on special teams immediately as he was good on them at Nebraska.

2. (57) Victor Abiamiri, DE

The Eagles needed help at defensive end and Abiamiri looks like he’ll be able to help them soon.  But, despite all of his physical skills Abiamiri sometimes disappears on the field.  He looks like he’ll be more of a left end in the Pros and that’s fine with the Eagles.  Abiamiri has nice size at 6’4″, 271 pounds and he runs a 4.8 40 which is outstanding for a player his size.  In 49 games (30 starts) at Notre Dame, Abiamiri made 128 tackles, 40 tackles for a loss, had 21.5 sacks, batted down 2 passes and forced 3 fumbles.  Abiamiri was a nice pick for the Eagles, much better than their first pick of the draft.

The Philadelphia Eagles release DT Sam Rayburn

The Eagles have released Sam Rayburn.  It became a numbers game for Rayburn as the Eagles just had too many players in front of him on the depth chart.  Rayburn played in 11 games last season for the Eagles and he made 12 tackles.  He was an undrafted free agent when the Eagles signed him 4 years ago.  Rayburn played in 53 games for the Eagles and he made 65 tackles, had 9 sacks, defensed 1 pass, forced 2 fumbles and recovered a fumble.  Rayburn should have no problem finding a new job as good backup defensive linemen are hard to find.

2. (36) Kevin Kolb, QB

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,The Draft Report by dawgpounded on Thursday 10 May 2007 at 8:30 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles must be really worried about Donovan McNabb’s health which is the only reason I can see for them drafting another QB.  Despite already having McNabb, A.J. Feeley and Kelly Holcomb already on the roster they drafted a QB anyway.  Kolb is a big guy (6’3″, 218) and he has a strong enough arm to make very throw he will need to at the pro level.  Kolb played in 50 games (all starts) at Houston and he completed 964 of 1,565 (61.6%) passes for 12,964 yards with 85 TD passes and 31 interceptions.  It will likely take time for Kolb to adjust to the NFL after playing in a run and shoot style of offense in Houston.  This pick seems like a reach as they probably could have got him in the 3rd round.

The Philadelphia Eagles sign DT Ian Scott

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by dawgpounded on Saturday 5 May 2007 at 12:43 am

The Eagles have signed Ian Scott to give them depth on the defensive line.  It’s even possible that he can win a starting job with them.  Scott played in 15 games last season for the Chicago Bears and he made 22 tackles, defensed 6 passes, forced a fumble and he recovered 1 fumble.

The Philadelphia Eagles release linebacker Dhani Jones

This move shows you what the Eagles think of just drafted linebacker Stewart Bradley out of Nebraska.  Jones played in all 16 games last season for the Eagles and he had 76 tackles, 1/2 a sack and he defensed 5 passes.  This just proves that the Eagles want to get younger on defense.  Jones should have no problem finding a new job in the league for this season.
