Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 21 December 2006 at 5:08 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles have been hot lately as they’ve won their last 3 games.  The Cowboys have won 6 of their last 7 games including a 38-28 win in Atlanta last Saturday Night.

Look for the Eagles to run their offense the same way they have all season against the Cowboys.  Look for Jeff Garcia (96.3 QB rating) to spread the ball around to alot of different receivers.  Brian Westbrook (74 rec, 664 yards) and TE LJ Smith will test the linebackers and safeties of the Cowboys, while Reggie Brown and Donte’ Stallworth will try to get behind the defense with long pass routes.  The Cowboys are a little vulnerable in the secondary as they allow 214.8 net passing yards per game so far this season.  The Eagles won’t forget to run the ball as Brian Westbrook (1,092 yards rushing) and Corell Buckhalter will get their share of carries.

The Cowboys would probably like to run the ball alot on Monday against an Eagles rush defense that is allowing 138.6 yards rushing per game and 4.4 yards per carry.  Julius Jones (1,019 yards rushing) and Marion Barber (636 yards rushing) will likely split the carries against the Eagles.  Tony Romo has to be careful against the secondary of the Eagles that is full of playmakers.  Still, look for him to try to get the ball to T.O. (77 rec, 1,040 yards), Terry Glenn (63 rec, 921 yards) and TE Jason Witten.

This game could go either way.  I’m going to side with the QB that protects the football better on Monday Night.

The Eagles bounce the Giants 36-22

The Eagles blew this game open in the 4th quarter when they outscored the Giants 22-9!  Jeff Garcia had a pretty good game as he completed 19 of 28 passes for 237 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 16 yards.  Brian Westbrook hand a great game as usual with 19 carries for 97 yards (5.1 ypc) and 2 TDs (including a 1-yard dive over the top on a 4th and 1 in the second quarter).  He also caught 5 passes for 40 yards.  Correll Buckhalter also had a decent game with 8 carries for 48 yards (6.0 ypc) and a TD.  Reggie Brown had a good game with 4 receptions for 77 yards and a TD.  TE LJ Smith caught 4 passes for 54 yards.

Brian Dawkins was awesome leading the way for the defense with 12 tackles, an interception and he forced 2 fumbles.  Omar Gaither also was very tough with 10 tackles and a sack.  Trent Cole intercepted a pass in the 4th quarter which was the final dagger in the Giants comeback attempt as he returned it 19 yards for a TD.   The Giants only ran the ball 22 times for 88 yards (4.0 ypc).  The Giants completed 28 of 40 passes for 270 net yards passing.

This was a huge with for the Eagles who improved to 8-6 on the season with this win.

Trent Cole has been a lifesaver for Eagles

When Javon Kearse went down for the season the Eagles needed someone to step up in his place and that has been Trent Cole.  Cole has 58 tackles, 8 sacks, defensed 2 passes and forced a fumble so far this season.  Without him, the Eagles defense would be in trouble this season.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 15 December 2006 at 8:17 pm

The Eagles have won two games in a row.  The Giants snapped a 4 game losing streak with a win last week in Carolina.

Look for the Eagles to put alot of pressure on the Giants LB’s by getting the ball to Brian Westbrook running and receiving.  Westbrook has 1,619 yards rushing & receiving so far this season.  The Giants run defense has been pretty tough allowing 100.4 yards rushing and 3.8 yards per carry so far this season.  The Eagles will also throw alot, because that’s their style.  Jeff Garcia (97.4 QB rating) should have time to throw and he’ll be looking for Westbrook & Smith short.  As soon as the safeties creep up, Garcia will go deep to Reggie Brown (39 rec, 712 yards) and Donte Stallworth (34 rec, 669 yards).

Look for the Giants to run the ball alot.  The Eagles allow 142.5 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry.  So look for Tiki Barber (1,282 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (385 yards rushing) to both have huge games.  Eli Manning will probably use play-action to freeze the linebackers and slow the pass rush.  When he throws it will likely be directed at Jeremy Shockey or Plaxico Burress.

This game will go to whichever QB plays better.

Big plays help Eagles beat Redskins 21-19

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 11 December 2006 at 1:13 am

The offense didn’t play that well, but just good enough to win.  Jeff Garcia completed 15 of 23 passes for 164 yards with 2 TDs.  Brian Westbrook was busy with 17 carries for 88 yards (5.2 ypc) and he caught 3 passes for 38 yards.  Reggie Brown led the WRs with 3 receptions for 73 yards.  Donte Stallworth added 3 receptions for 31 yards and a TD.  L.J. Smith caught 3 passes for only 10 yards, but one of the catches was a TD.

Jeremiah Trotter led the way for the Eagles defense with 13 tackles.  Brian Dawkins played well with 7 tackles and a sack.  Michael Lewis also had a good game with 6 tackles and an interception that he returned 84 yards for a TD.  The Redskins ran the ball 40 times for 210 yards (5.3 ypc).  The Skins completed 16 of 28 passes for 205 net yards passing.

The Eagles kept their playoff hopes alive and improved to 7-6 on the season with this win.
