AJ Feeley leads Eagles backups over the Falcons 24-17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 31 December 2006 at 9:59 pm

Jeff Garcia completed 1 of 3 passes for 29 yards and Brian Westbrook carried the ball 1 time for 3 yards and caught Garcia’s only completion before the pair sat on the bench for the rest of the game.  AJ Feeley looked great for the Eagles as he completed 22 of 33 passes for 321 yards with 3 TDs.  Ryan Moats carried the ball 11 times for 22 yards (2.0 ypc).  Reno Mahe carried the ball 3 times for 14 yards (4.7 ypc).  Hank Baskett had an awesome game with 7 receptions for 177 yards and a TD.  Greg Lewis added 4 catches for 52 yards.  Rookie Jason Avant caught 4 passes for 40 yards and a TD.  TE Matt Schobel caught 2 passes for 24 yards and a TD.

The defense didn’t play to well for the Eagles today.  The Falcons ran the ball 34 times for 159 yards (4.7 ypc).  The Falcons also completed 23 of 35 passes for 219 net yards passing.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons have lost 2 games in a row but can make the playoffs with a win and help.  The Eagles are soaring as they’ve won 4 games in a row and can clinch the NFC East with a win.

The Falcons offensive strength (running the ball) matches up perfect with the Eagles weakness (defending the run).  So look for the Falcons to run the ball almost every play on Sunday.  Warrick Dunn (1,082 yards rushing), Michael Vick (1,022 yards rushing) and rookie Jerious Norwood (570 yards rushing) should all have good games against the Eagles soft run defense that has allowed 134.9 yards rushing and 4.4 yards per carry so far this season.  Michael Vick must be careful if he decides to throw the ball to Alge Crumpler because he’ll likely be matched up against big-time safety Brian Dawkins.

The Eagles would prefer to get a lead passing the ball and then grind out a win.  Jeff Garcia (96.2 QB Rating) has been fantastic since taking over for Donovan McNabb.  The Falcons are vulnerable to the pass as they allow 221.2 net yards passing per game.  Look for Garcia to throw short stuff to LJ Smith and Brian Westbrook, and when the Falcons sneak up to try to stop that, whammo Garcia will throw the ball deep to Donte’ Stallworth and Reggie Brown.  Brian Westbrook (1,214 yards rushing) should find some running room against the Falcons who allow 107.6 yards rushing per game.

Look for the Eagles to get a quick lead and take the Falcons out of their running game.  I like the Eagles to win this game by about 10 points.

Eagles playoff scenarios

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Thursday 28 December 2006 at 7:49 pm

The Eagles have clinched a playoff berth.  Can clinch division with: 1) a win  2) a Dallas loss  3) a tie and a Dallas tie.

The Eagles can cap off an improbable run to the NFC East division crown with a win at home over the Falcons.  No one in their wildest dreams could have forcasted Jeff Garcia playing better than Donovan McNabb after he went down…..but that’s exactly what he’s done.

Eagles totally dominate the Cowboys 23-7

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 26 December 2006 at 1:32 pm

The Eagles totally kicked the Cowboys butt on their home field.  The Eagles kept the ball away from the Cowboys as they had possession of the football for 37:06 of the football game.  The Eagles rolled up 426 yards of offense while the Cowboys could only muster up 201 total yards.  Jeff Garcia continued his fine play this season as he completed 15 of 23 passes for 238 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 7 times for 43 yards (6.1 ypc).  Brian Westbrook had a great game with 26 carries for 122 yards (4.7 ypc).  Correll Buckhalter backed him up with 8 carries for 38 yards (4.8 ypc) and a TD.  TE LJ Smith only caught 2 passes, but they were for 77 yards.  Donte Stallworth added 3 grabs for 51 yards.  TE Matt Schobel added 2 catches for 35 yards and a TD.

The defense played their best game of the season.  The Cowboys ran the ball 19 times for 83 yards (4.4 ypc), but the Eagles held the RBs to 41 yards rushing on 16 carries.  The Cowboys only completed 14 of 29 passes for 118 net yards passing and the Eagles held the “evil one”  T.O. to 2 catches for 23 yards.

The Eagles now can win the division with a win next week as they sit at 9-6 on the season with this win.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 21 December 2006 at 5:08 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles have been hot lately as they’ve won their last 3 games.  The Cowboys have won 6 of their last 7 games including a 38-28 win in Atlanta last Saturday Night.

Look for the Eagles to run their offense the same way they have all season against the Cowboys.  Look for Jeff Garcia (96.3 QB rating) to spread the ball around to alot of different receivers.  Brian Westbrook (74 rec, 664 yards) and TE LJ Smith will test the linebackers and safeties of the Cowboys, while Reggie Brown and Donte’ Stallworth will try to get behind the defense with long pass routes.  The Cowboys are a little vulnerable in the secondary as they allow 214.8 net passing yards per game so far this season.  The Eagles won’t forget to run the ball as Brian Westbrook (1,092 yards rushing) and Corell Buckhalter will get their share of carries.

The Cowboys would probably like to run the ball alot on Monday against an Eagles rush defense that is allowing 138.6 yards rushing per game and 4.4 yards per carry.  Julius Jones (1,019 yards rushing) and Marion Barber (636 yards rushing) will likely split the carries against the Eagles.  Tony Romo has to be careful against the secondary of the Eagles that is full of playmakers.  Still, look for him to try to get the ball to T.O. (77 rec, 1,040 yards), Terry Glenn (63 rec, 921 yards) and TE Jason Witten.

This game could go either way.  I’m going to side with the QB that protects the football better on Monday Night.

The Eagles bounce the Giants 36-22

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 17 December 2006 at 8:14 pm

The Eagles blew this game open in the 4th quarter when they outscored the Giants 22-9!  Jeff Garcia had a pretty good game as he completed 19 of 28 passes for 237 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 16 yards.  Brian Westbrook hand a great game as usual with 19 carries for 97 yards (5.1 ypc) and 2 TDs (including a 1-yard dive over the top on a 4th and 1 in the second quarter).  He also caught 5 passes for 40 yards.  Correll Buckhalter also had a decent game with 8 carries for 48 yards (6.0 ypc) and a TD.  Reggie Brown had a good game with 4 receptions for 77 yards and a TD.  TE LJ Smith caught 4 passes for 54 yards.

Brian Dawkins was awesome leading the way for the defense with 12 tackles, an interception and he forced 2 fumbles.  Omar Gaither also was very tough with 10 tackles and a sack.  Trent Cole intercepted a pass in the 4th quarter which was the final dagger in the Giants comeback attempt as he returned it 19 yards for a TD.   The Giants only ran the ball 22 times for 88 yards (4.0 ypc).  The Giants completed 28 of 40 passes for 270 net yards passing.

This was a huge with for the Eagles who improved to 8-6 on the season with this win.

Trent Cole has been a lifesaver for Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 17 December 2006 at 2:10 pm

When Javon Kearse went down for the season the Eagles needed someone to step up in his place and that has been Trent Cole.  Cole has 58 tackles, 8 sacks, defensed 2 passes and forced a fumble so far this season.  Without him, the Eagles defense would be in trouble this season.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 15 December 2006 at 8:17 pm

The Eagles have won two games in a row.  The Giants snapped a 4 game losing streak with a win last week in Carolina.

Look for the Eagles to put alot of pressure on the Giants LB’s by getting the ball to Brian Westbrook running and receiving.  Westbrook has 1,619 yards rushing & receiving so far this season.  The Giants run defense has been pretty tough allowing 100.4 yards rushing and 3.8 yards per carry so far this season.  The Eagles will also throw alot, because that’s their style.  Jeff Garcia (97.4 QB rating) should have time to throw and he’ll be looking for Westbrook & Smith short.  As soon as the safeties creep up, Garcia will go deep to Reggie Brown (39 rec, 712 yards) and Donte Stallworth (34 rec, 669 yards).

Look for the Giants to run the ball alot.  The Eagles allow 142.5 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry.  So look for Tiki Barber (1,282 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (385 yards rushing) to both have huge games.  Eli Manning will probably use play-action to freeze the linebackers and slow the pass rush.  When he throws it will likely be directed at Jeremy Shockey or Plaxico Burress.

This game will go to whichever QB plays better.

Big plays help Eagles beat Redskins 21-19

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 11 December 2006 at 1:13 am

The offense didn’t play that well, but just good enough to win.  Jeff Garcia completed 15 of 23 passes for 164 yards with 2 TDs.  Brian Westbrook was busy with 17 carries for 88 yards (5.2 ypc) and he caught 3 passes for 38 yards.  Reggie Brown led the WRs with 3 receptions for 73 yards.  Donte Stallworth added 3 receptions for 31 yards and a TD.  L.J. Smith caught 3 passes for only 10 yards, but one of the catches was a TD.

Jeremiah Trotter led the way for the Eagles defense with 13 tackles.  Brian Dawkins played well with 7 tackles and a sack.  Michael Lewis also had a good game with 6 tackles and an interception that he returned 84 yards for a TD.  The Redskins ran the ball 40 times for 210 yards (5.3 ypc).  The Skins completed 16 of 28 passes for 205 net yards passing.

The Eagles kept their playoff hopes alive and improved to 7-6 on the season with this win.
