Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Tuesday 12 September 2006 at 4:59 pm

Sheppard sprained his ankle real bad Sunday against the Texans and is a no-go this week.  Roderick Hood is expected to start in his place.

Eagles dominate Texans 24-10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 11 September 2006 at 7:18 pm

The score doesn’t tell the whole story as the Eagles administered a beating to the Texans.  Donovan McNabb looked awesome, completing 24 of 35 passes (68.6%) for 314 yards with 3 TDs and 1 interception.  RB Brian Westbrook had a great game, carrying the ball 17 times for 71 yards (4.2 ypc) and caught 4 passes for 61 yards (15.3 avg) and a TD.  Correll Buckhalter looked good too, running the ball 8 times for 50 yards (6.3 ypc).  WR Dontae Stallworth caught 6 passes for 141 yards (23.5 avg) and a TD.  TE LJ Smith caught 6 passes for 56 yards (9.3 avg).  WR Reggie Brown caught 2 passes for 20 yards and a TD.

The defense played a great game too.  The Texans only could muster 70 yards rushing and 3.5 yards per carry.  The Texans did complete 66.7% of their passes, but only for 171 net yards thru the air.

This Eagles team looks completely different from last year’s version, and that’s a good thing.

Eagles vs. Texans

All this talk about the Eagles running more is a bunch of hogwash.  Brian Westbrook’s foot is still giving him problems, Correll Buckhalter can’t carry the load with his knees and Ryan Moats has never been a lead back.  I look for the Eagles to attempt to throw the ball alot against the Texans.  The Eagles offensive line should be able to keep Donovan McNabb clean as long as they keep rookie DE Mario Williams out of their backfield.  CB Dunta Robinson is a fine player for the Texans, but he can’t cover everyone.  Dontae’ Stallworth, Reggie Brown and Hank Baskett should be able to cause problems for the Texans secondary.  TE LJ Smith should have a good day against the safeties of the Texans too.

The Texans will attempt to run a Denver-style offense, using the zone-block running game and play-action passing using bootlegs.  Rookie Wali Lundy and Vernand Morency will get most of the carries this week for Houston.  MLB Jeremiah Trotter will have to be moved by the guards or center to make the offense work, because it all starts with the running game.  QB David Carr will probably try to take some shots down the field if he has time.  WR Andre Johnson and Eric Moulds are a fine tandem, but the Eagles have one of the best secondaries in the NFL.

I look for the Eagles to win a close game, as the Texans are one of the most improved teams in the league this year.
